Vmware solution for themida protection

04/23/2013 07:13 cleamaltese#46
I tried to modify the vmx files, but it's still saying xTrap cannot run on virtual machine...
I'm using Vista 32-bit and MWare Workstation version 9 btw, should I changed the version or...
Anyone experiencing the same...?

Solution still works entirely fine - thanks a bunch!

Worst guide I ever saw in my entire life.
I tried everything you said without knowing exactly what to do or how to do but I tried and still dont work.

I am sure I did something wrong but the explanation in this guide is very weak.

thank you it works...I will try to explain:
1 - after modified Regedit entry, power off your VMware,
2 - then go to> c:/users/(account)/my documents/virtual machines/(OS installed on VMware)/(your OS.vmx) (not in VMware)

to find the configuration .vmx easily, right-click the first file with your OS name on it, for example: Windows XP Professional.vmx, and select open Notepad, then you paste codes,
or if you're having trouble finding it, right click one-by-one and see extension

1. Run your VMware Guest OS.

2. Goto Run (a tool in windows where you can put any command for windows)
Type: Regedit

3. Navigate and Change this entry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}/0000

Double Click on "DriverDesc" and erase the value.
DO NOT DELETE DriverDesc, if you do this Themida will look for other entries in your registry that tell it you are running cabal inside vmware.

NOTE: If you're using W7 in your VMware, there are several "DriverDesc" you need to change. Use the Find tool of regedit (ctrl+F)

(E-games could easily change themida protection to query other information in VMware OS, to check for other values, in the future)

4. Close your VM Guest OS

5. In your host OS, Find your Virtual Machine configuration (*.vmx)
add this text

monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "true"
isolation. tools.getPtrLocation.disable = "TRUE"
isolation. tools.setPtrLocation.disable = "TRUE"
isolation. tools.setVersion.disable = "TRUE"
isolation. tools.getVersion.disable = "TRUE"
monitor_control.disable_directexec = "TRUE"

save it, and your all set

hope it helps..:mofo:

HOW to add the text in HOST O.S ???? i found the config. but can't add the text

Just open it with the regular editor. The file has the same name as your virtual machine and it's also in the same folder as the vm.
Add this text - the text in the first post didn't work for me so I changed the layout a little bit:
monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "TRUE"
isolation.tools.getPtrLocation.disable = "TRUE"
isolation.tools.setPtrLocation.disable = "TRUE"
isolation.tools.setVersion.disable = "TRUE"
isolation.tools.getVersion.disable = "TRUE"
monitor_control.disable_directexec = "TRUE"
