yeah it is an idea too, at least we both know what we are speaking about, but i'd say he could get issues with the raid controller too, if it doesn't have enough caching, write-back is always good too as long it does have a battery :), but i saw some cases, where onboard controllers where hitting an i/o cap with dual SSD setup so these cases must be really checked one by one hehe.

It all depends on the type of data your writing...

If your just transferring BULK you could write data no problem, but when your running logs for 4000 chars... good luck..

yes but a raid controller with decent caching and a high capacity iops cpu, can delivery even better performance, as it will do sequential writes up to the capacity of the disks and offloading them, since it does have cache to keep some more 'hot data' being queued without interfering in the overall throughput :)

Its not always about the HDD, you forgot to count the SQL server.

the SQL server is 100% I/O based.

it does have three priorities :

- disk I/O (top 1)
- memory (top 2)
- cpu (top 3)

so no, i didn't forget to count that, it is included in the whole conversation regarding the disk I/O capabilities of the server.

True, however when your SQL server reaches 20-30gb usage then you're fucked xD.Well this happens only to newbies but it's one of the cases.
