The point is that you can patent a file format and enforce it, however as far as I'm aware TQ is not the owner of the c3 file format as they did not write the engine so its an irrelevant point regardless.
Also on an interesting note, copyrighting source code is a grey area, it has previously been ruled a breach of Freedom of Speech. You can patent a process and can copyright a finished product, but not necessarily just raw source code.
So in this circumstance I doubt Ulti would have a leg to stand on with regards to copyright, the code was released without license, nor notice of copyright, nor patent information, and critically was released to the public domain with no legal requirements to be fulfilled.
To expect that the code not be distributed beyond this forum was nieve frankly, and as such a massive supporter (and leader?) of the Underground you would have thought it would have been released there first if he was worried about it leaving elitepvpers.
