I'll try to answer just what you've asked :p
  1. Use any Pk2 tool to find the texture (.ddj) and extract it.

  2. Convert those joymax textures (.ddj) into standart texture format (.dds) or the format required for the next step through Photoshop (like .png).
[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...].
  3. Upscale that texture with some IA specializated tool by preference, there is so many out there and it depends how familiarizated you are with it.
Most are paid but for quick try, use [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...].
  4. Download the result and revert the process; PNG > DDS > DDJ > Import.

Thanks a lot.

While not so obvious, I think the difference is there:

However, it can also mess things up:

The decent upscale websites are not free.

Do you know why the texture messes up after I convert from PNG to DDS/DDJ ?

I am using Upscayl, which is supposedly better than what I've been using before, however as soon as I convert PNG->DDS/DDJ the images get really pixelated, any idea?

Found it: It's the compression method and using your tool spits them out just fine. Just select "None" when it comes to compression I guess.

Using Upscayl, there are a few models to choose from:

Model 1 RealEsrgan (upscaled from 512x512 to 8192x8192):

Model 2 RealEsrgan Plus (upscaled from 512x512 to 8192x8192):

Model 3 Remacri (upscaled from 512x512 to 8192x8192):

Model 4 Ultramix Balanced (upscaled from 512x512 to 8192x8192):

Model 5 Ultrasharp:

Model 5 Ultrasharp (upscaled from 512x512 to 2080x2080):

Model 6 RealEsrgan Anime (upscaled from 512x512 to 8192x8192):

10th degree shield:

Is your tool able to batch convert ?

You can also sharpen the upscaled image for a more defined look:

The end result looks really good, especially with a glow:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] is pretty decent and it is basically free.
You could delete their website cookies and just try again, over and over.. :p

Some results from Upscale.Media

By the way, you don't need huge resolutions to get better results..
Just using upscalers with IA tricks will be enough since they can keep the details and even rewrite them.

You find out that weapons/armors are using the Alpha channel (RGBA model) as metallic effect instead just opacity.
That's why I recommend to use the tools I mentioned [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] since you can see all the layers separately and modify just the RGB ones at those metallic cases.

If you export Alpha channel as "NONE", the opacity will be taken as 1. Each DXT (.dds) format may have some variations, and some of them does not save alpha channel by default for lighter size, performance wise. :)

Thank you for the quick response.
I wish we'd be able to upscale the whole SRO one day, not just a few items one by one.
It truly needs a makeover, haha.

More than upgrading using Ai, I edit textures, add and make edits via Photoshop. I haven't found a free opportunity yet. My work is very busy these days. I will continue to improve when I get the opportunity. We have the chance to improve the quality without increasing the resolution.

I've been trying to upscale this low-res, UGLY monstrosity of a skill however it's simply not working.
I converted and upscaled the skill:

However nothing is working...it's simply not applying in game.

Any tips?

I mean.. Why not?

Download an upscale tool that has the ability to work on multi-files and the rest is just a conversion game.

Upscaling textures may work with a good AI because I was trying to re-create client on Unreal Engine but most important thing finding a way to add pbr textures to original material. It would be really awesome! :D
