Hamachi pretty much opens everything(given that you don't have a firewall running on your PC)

It 'avoids' NAT(I don't really want to call it that way, but it makes it easier to explain) and allows direct connections (requests) to your PC(which NAT obviously prevents, except when using Port forwarding)

You should be really careful.
I'd install hamachi on a VM and run only gatewayserver, downloadserver and agentserver on it and restrict network access from that VM as much as possible

Safety is always priority #1 when making something available for everyone

If you care about safety, just don't run it on your local pc

About virtualization, I am a very big fan of virtualization, but be aware it brings a substantial performance loss with it, especially for IO sensitive applications (mssql)

If he wants a so called "test server" to work on it I don't see a problem using hamachi, but yea if it comes to a public server then either a VM or a root.
