as far as the structure of the itemtype theres no need lol it is so similar to the eo itemtype dat you can open it the same way with a hex editor and edit what you want and the structure is the same as the table it applies to you can see the comparison by looking at an item (find it by searching the name) and then looking at the numerical values in the colums in cq_itemtype the numbers that are the same as the numbers in each colum will give a damn good idea which order they go in which is pretty simple to see if you open it and sort and filter it the same way as you would an eo itemtype.dat


okay now on to the rest bought a database and kept it the way it was hoping other people would edit it? hahahahah ok you can say that... when the reality is quite different but I am not here to talk about my server dont worry I have no intentions of hijacking anyones thread merely trying to help someone rather than tell them theyre doomed to fail go to jail or worse as it seems is the trend now........ and only suggesting to you that you might not be the only one anymore (maybe a bit more experienced yes) but more people are learning like myself and if we help each other a little more before theres more people who learn maybe we can get a step up and actually get somewhere not just myself but this community as a whole ...

Your posts do not match your pm's sentiments, at this point I am sure you are just trying to troll or save face by spouting whatever drivel you can in whatever thread to continue an attempt to not look the fool.

You do not know the structure thus you cannot add a new item, thus you cannot tell someone how easy it is when you yourself know nothing in the matter except how to edit a name. If you insist on telling someone how to do things, then learn how it works first before insulting the threads op by saying something is easy and you don't need to understand how the file byte structure works, because in reality you do, or you cannot add new items or know which data fields need to be edited to fix item bugs in an existing dat (something your server is full of).

I didnt say one time it was easy maybe easy for someone who knows more about it yes and I have added quite a bit to my itemtype and changed quite a few things already as well as name but once again this thread is not me stop please man seriously if Im a make a fool of myself let me no need to make a big scene ok hell who knows maybe you might find out I do know something after all (maybe not lol) no worries either way Ill keep doing things by counting on my fingers and toes and you can tell me later what I did wrong but somewhere along the way we really gotta stop trying to drive people out of here its not helping anyone Im sincerely sorry I offended you ever ok people disagree about things its life that doesnt mean they want to be your enemy just simply that they have a different opinion.... my opinion in here that seems to be the issue is that its not neccessary to tell everyone they cant do anything and are doomed to fail and was rather hoping you might see that and be a little more sunny and upbeat about things and maybe we can have some fun with disagreeing if you still want to disagree with me

What I do is tell people what they need to know, what they should look into doing, and in most cases they either 1) do not want to admit they don't know what they are doing, 2) don't like to be corrected, 3) realize how much work this game actually needs and decide it isn't worth it. I am not running people out, if they leave because of those factors it was their choice. Wolf and Arky have not taken offense to anything I have said as it is all factual to what is needed to fix the game, however you are the one who jumped into this thread to state otherwise in contrary to my advice without you yourself being well informed.

If you want me to quit replying to commentary directly quoted from what I say, then quit quote replying to what I say when I am talking to other people, it is pretty simple.

My reply in idles guide about xp rate adjustment for the most part covers why I respond the way I do, but does not explain idles responses, those are his to answer for. If I come off as defensive in regards to subject material and or forceful over definition and correctness (much like a professor would in any university to a student who is challenging a subject), again my response in that thread likely covers the explanation. I am not the intended villain here, even if at times I come off as such in a villainous light, I am just very blunt when it comes to giving direction or pushing people to the correct answers. As without being direct, people tend to misunderstand or assume and assumption tends to cause problems when it comes to development.

i ty for your response shadow in being very blunt i dont think anyone a villian in my book lol everyone just has different oppinions and answers like i said im a newb and need helpful hints can anyone give me a hint how too make a cap and core dealer i know some of the basics with the cq action and task but what would be better just edit the preexisting npc or just make a new npc and could someone give a guide not like eudomons or any other game something that actually would be for zero alone?

The majority of what you ask for is similar to eo's npc work, with only a few differences. However the problem with guides is they only give you some details on how to do that specific thing, but they do not teach you how to problem solve, guides have only ever lead to people making identical servers that are subpar to those made by people who learned how to problem solve in this particular case. For example, I can point out what made omni different from everything else is that I had no guides to work with, no helping hand, but I did have the ability to problem solve and figure out through dissection and trial and error how to fix it and add new content. That is really truely what is needed to make a good zo pserv. Unlike eo and co, zo doesn't have a database that is already mostly fixed, and there is no guide or even tools to fix the database that needs a 80 to 90percent rewrite to make the game long term playable. So even if you had a guide for npc edits or a guide on shop edits and item edits, it wont fix all of that other game breaking stuff.

This is the very reason I think the majority of "how to do this and that" guides are useless, because they don't teach you how to figure out how to fix things no guide could cover (not without being an entire many hundred page book).

With this game those factors are so much more important since the game will never excel without those fixes or that knowledge. No matter if even someone released those tools, you would still need to fix so much server side (which requires the knowledge of how it works to start with) that it really does become a full job that cannot be done without problem solving and reverse engineering skills, both of which cannot be obtained using a guide of short answers as those needed skills are a way of thinking.

I pointed out issues with idles guide in an attempt to get him to learn and problem solve what was missing. I didn't post in that thread to add information to a guide that doesn't teach people how to learn. Instead it was an attempt to teach someone how to learn by giving them a direction and knowledge of what was missing.

People are always free to make such guides (which I think cause more harm than good as people who even run scam servers make use of those guides to "trick" a community into thinking they are potentially capable, where good servers often created their own fixes without a guide), and I will pick apart any guides with flaws with the reasoning of maybe I can get the guide creator to learn a bit more by pointing out this or that. As guide creators (as long as it isn't a copy from another guide) are often the closest to being capable of understanding and learning the how and what than the ones reading them.

I for one however will not make such guides as I have stated, I think cause more harm than good. So I will continue to be a source of direction than a source of a useless quick fix. To know how to fish is far more important than being handed 1 fish as many self obtained fish through effort far outweigh the value of that 1 fish.

well shadow i asked 2 questions first question was should i just edit the pre existing npc or should i make a new npc i also asked for an example that had nothing too do with eo or any other game i understand that through trial and error instead your msg gives no understanding whats so ever that fine if you dont wanna give me a direct answer bro but dont make a page and a half which even other devs dont understand you its just avoiding the current questions at hand im not your enemy bro and im trying too learn a better way too fix the problems with zo not screw them up

I was more or less explaining the anti guide reasoning's, and the pointing at eo was a hint of direction since zo's npc handling is "really" similar. My advice is, in omni I always made new npc's for whatever task as most of the "stock" npc's were badly written to start with and if you want it to be a booth sale npc, then you need to figure out shop.dat and that will require a client update. (Small note: new npc's also mean client patches, where as editing existing means no patch required unless it is a shop type.)

In the case of booth type not being an option, it will have to be a dialog based sale npc. Npc editing just like in eo requires dyn or normal npc entry in server side with an id reference the client can refer to, and client ini edits to support the c3/texture/direction/effects and npc id and name assignment. Most of that is almost the same as eo's so an eo source of information would give you the best hints without direct answer or rather best lead on where to start looking.

The reason I am not giving exacts is, by pointing to eo's info, that knowing eo's is only a partial match, is that you can learn a step of problem solving (with a side of game design flow of what is where) and figure out how zo's setup works using what eo had as direction. One of the biggest hints you have is zo is an engine that was derived from a early version of eo. Even if it has been heavily altered, base concepts are still similar in what to work on. You just have to find them.

Learning how to do this on your own, teaches you the mentality of how to hunt and edit or even add the other things you have in mind. Not trying to be a dick or anything, but there was a hint in that post before I even explained the guides for zo are useless imo part, even if the hint was very short. ;p

You will see in this post at the very least, you poked for more direction without lashing out, and you obtained more direction.

he answered you in his statement. the npcs are relatively the same as eudemons so fix the npc or create your own. if you want to fix it you can take a gander at what others have done and try your own method to fix them. or just create your npc.

on the rest of shadows statement i agree with him i was on the conquer and eudemons section and to be honest it is horrible there are thousands of pservers and all of them are garbage but a very small very small less then a handful are real pservers that should get the attention and they don't why because these twits with there scam servers are open by the dozen every day and off high rates and easy stuff people flock to these servers put there money in for ability to beat someone else with out thinking, " is this server even worth it?, does it have ANY originality?, does the admin of that server even know how to fix the bugs, are there bugs which have been fixed?, how are the staff?, any original content at all? " 90 percent of the pservers in the eudemons section are all revo db 9 prc are one of the other dbs that have been released only 1 prc are even worth anything same thing for conquer section i can state all the shitty ass files full of errors and broken that are released why are those broken files released from eo and co because they was copy past fallowing shitty guides and not learning anything what so ever.
