My best guess is that these bans were handed by running certain procedures to validate historical action data. Since this detection mechanism seems to be completely server side one would have to collect a lot information from banned users to dissect any meaningful info on what Kakao is looking for. This is a bit tough one since we don't really have good statistics or event logging built in to the cheat.

Yeah, but they're not going to waste resources on cheaters if they are not an issue. This time cheaters attracted a bit too much negative attention so it made perfect sense for them to raise customer satisfaction with a couple ban waves. But going after every single cheater doesn't inherently have any business value.
