Those that skip to the end anyway wouldn't contribute back in the first place. That population of people can ultimately be ignored. It's not a bad thing to have the results right in front of you. Actually it isn't lol. While having the crypto would be nice, what I'm working on is vanilla 2.0 atm and is entirely irrelevant to what I'm doing and will be for quite some time. The thread was just me commenting on the state of the community. Nothing more.

But you don't know the state of the community...

i can fully understand what your trying todo and i can appreciate it, but your talking to the wrong side of the line. you need to be talking to the random 1 posters who come here.

This is not supposed to be an open-source community at all. This is a Private Server community for development of your own server. It's not about helping others making their server, however people are still doing it and it's fine and the community wouldn't come long without contributions at all anyways, but the reality is that this is not what it was intended to be from the start and shouldn't. You don't see any other game-developers sharing their source code do you? Have you seen TQ sharing their codes with free will? Have you seen WoW doing the same? The answer is no you haven't, because it's kept private for a reason. In game development you are trying to become better than the others and more unique and how can you become that? By keeping things private.

Nothing against anyone I quoted, but that could just as easily be people lurking here. They see how people react, regardless of whether he "was worthy" of being "blessed" by the knowledge and they'll either take their knowledge and leave, or just not bother to contribute back because you know, just like you guys don't want to spoon feed randoms, maybe some don't want to help further the elitists here and would rather attempt to work on their own project leeching what they can instead.

Why are you talking about the official companies and sharing? If you want to talk about WoW, what about the WoW private server community? Pretty sure it was all open source for years. I don't know about lately, but it was open source, powerful, very complete, and done right. Can't say it doesn't work. It only won't work if you refuse to do it.

If they are smart enough to work on their own projects with only the input provided on the forums thus far, they are smart enough to break encryption or optional make the judgement to just progress without it, not whine like a little bitch on the forum about not having it and then rage quit.

Not to mention their post would atleast make sense if they did request assistance with it on the forums.

So let them rage. How does it hurt you? Of all the people who whine and complain, eventually someone who is better than that will come along. If you're not willing to stick it out and be a better "leader" of this community, why are you still around? You get the title with your actions. Those who make the releases are considered the "top" by the community and they'll all look up to you. Too late it escape it. Not a bad thing though. You seem to be getting confused between which side of the arguement your on, im saying encryption (and alike) should be kept private away from leachers, randomers, regular users. And you just agreed with me by stating "So let them rage."

And you seem to be confused about my position, im a contributor yes, im not a leader, nor particular elite in any regard (i dont have the latest encryption for example), and with all due respect who are you to tell me what i can and cant do on this forum? You who have been inactive for vast periods of time and who only ever materialises to complain about the state of the community. So far you have done all of those things and more imo in this thread.

Might have misread it a bit as I was reading fast. You ignore the people who whine and complain about not getting things to work right and help those that make genuine effort. Copypasters ignored, people learning helped.

Well, if you're not here to help the community why are you here? That's just my question. You seem to want to stifle advancement by keeping everything private. That hardly helps. Just because I've been inactive doesn't make me any worse a person in this community. Yea, sure. I've complained about the community in this thread. The hope was that something might change. Sorry for making an attempt to help the community. Thats why the things that are release like a packet wiki are exactly what the community needs, it provides them with raw data that can be used, but no direct implementation, anyone wanting to develop a proxy or source can then use that resource as part of their own development without being just handed a working implementation that they wont learn from, wont fully understand and will have to ask for help with.

So my question is, why do you want to just hand over all the information and implementation and remove the requirement for people to think for themselves? HURR DOWN WITH THE THINKING! :rolleyes:

About that packet wiki of yours, are you actually updating it or is there another reason as to why it's still down?

Because not everyone thinks and works alike. People like me learn better via studying functional implementations while others might work better with theory aka a wiki. Only acknowledging one type is terrible. As I go to work on this source I'm working on now, I'm going to go pick apart every released source to date. Not to steal code or anything, but to see how they did it, see their implementation, and improve upon it. Obviously can't steal code anyway as it is since mine will be in C++, but to assume your method is the best without looking at alternatives is ignorant. My goal is the same as it was before. To make the best, most functional server source there is. One thing I will accept is I don't have all the answers.
