FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Blizzard to Include Glider LE with The Burning Crusade
Irvine, California ? 4/1/2006 ? Blizzard Entertainment announced today that the upcoming expansion for the hit MMORPG ?World of Warcraft? will be bundled with a limited copy of the controversial ?Glider? tool.
In an effort to ensure all players can enjoy the new content, the included Glider application will run in a limited mode, hence the ?LE? suffix. In this mode, it can be used to reach the maximum game level of 60 with a single character before expiring. This is intended to allow players without max-level characters to quickly reach the soft ceiling of 60 to enjoy the new content in The Burning Crusade.
?It?s really pretty simple,? said Mercury, co-founder of WoW Glider and lead developer. ?A large part of the content in TBC is based in the Outland, where characters will need to be level 60 and have end-game gear. Allowing someone to glide to 60 not only prepares the player for Outland, but also sets up more subscription time before the expansion, since they?ll need to spend time getting high-end gear through PVP or raid instances.?
?They?re really trying to bring back anyone who may have dropped a subscription before reaching 60 by allowing faster access to the new content. At least that?s what I?m guessing,? continued Mercury.
The gaming industry has long recognized Blizzard?s expansions and follow-on products as typically being nearly as complete as the products they extend. Expansions in recent years to the Diablo 2 and Warcraft III games were top sellers, cementing that opinion.
?People know our expansions are big and we?d hate for an ultra-casual player to miss out simply because he gave up at level 56 when he was too low to get an invite to Scholomance and too frustrated to run BRD one more time for those awful green BoP drops,? commented Blizzard?s Walter Kovacs, the new Director of Automation, during an in-game interview. He continued, ?The balance between casual and raid players has been in the spotlight of late, so this is our way of showing we?re not all about raids.?
In response to Blizzard?s normal opposition to automation of game play, Mr. Kovacs said, ?It?s still something we?re trying to cut down on, although there is obviously going to be some leeway with the bundled Glider LE for the expansion. Even so, we?ll continue to enforce abuse and make sure that no staff member is us/script ClearTarget();ing it.?
?Hey, can you strike that from the interview?? he added.
