[Discussion]Best hardware for SRO server?
What's your opinion, what's the best hardware for a SRO server?
CPU: Core i5 / Core i7 / Xeon X series / Xeon E3 / Xeon E5 / Dual Xeon / AMD Opteron 24 core?
RAM: not much option here, ECC memory is obviously more reliable, 24GB is more than enough for 1000 players
HDD: SATA2 / SAS / SSD?
RAID: RAID 0 / RAID 1 / RAID 2 / RAID 10?
Network: is 1gbps needed or 100mbps is enough?
Operating system: Server 2003 / Server 2008 / Server 2008 R2?
SQL Server: 2000 / 2005 / 2008 R2?
Best location: Europe / USA / Asia? Please also specify a country
Please reply in this form:
Code:
[b]CPU:[/b]
[b]HDD:[/b]
[b]RAID:[/b]
[b]Network:[/b]
[b]OS:[/b]
[b]SQL server:[/b]
[b]Location:[/b]

Wow, another attention whoring thread. I'm not surprised.
Don't act stupid, you perfectly know what kind of hardware is more than enough.

Wow.
I'm not attention whoring, I just would like to hear people's opinion, because I'm not a hardware expert.
What's the problem with that?

1.Read full line before writing like trash !
2.I didn't said that must be located in USA , I said i dunno in this case;
3.Do not insult and go off-topic , You've to write what consider in topic only.
4.Do not reply because you will write trash as you wrote , seems like you are newbie here and dunno anything about what you've to do .

CPU:i7
HDD:16-24
HDD: SSD(choose any)+1TB HDD (It can be fine just with the HDD )
Network:100mb/s
OS:Windows server 2008 R2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't choose the webserver because most of the addons and things won't work properly or won't work at all.
SQL server: SQL 2008 R2 (Evaluation) - 6 months ! If you are still on the market after 6 months... you'll find a solution to renew the license .
Location: Germany, Russia, or The Netherlands .

I will tell you about of our main machine at Class Online
2x Xeon QC X3440 2.53GHz
16Gb RAM
XGb SAS 15700rpm RAID10 with source energy controller
Russia (safety > everything, kings of offshore)
The second machine is the same one but with a more updated processors, 24Gb ram and 2Tb HDD.
You don't need SSD drives for a server like this, a SAS like mine is already strong enough for 2500 people (when we had 2000/2500 players we were running with 0 lag with this setups.
And of course a good server setup with a good technician. The OS we are using is Win2k3 RC2
