It's obvious that you weren't a good hacker...

.." sounds like you think that servers get hacked if they're old...
Which isn't true if you just block your ports and keep everything local what needs to be local you will be secure.
If only your gateway, download and agentserver are open and ofcourse the remote control then your server will be safe.
The only way to hack it is by brute forcing the remote control but you can even secure the remote control so only your ip can connect with it.
The only option left is a bug in the server files or a bug in the remote desktop which isn't very likely. At least not a kind of bug which gets your server hacked.
All the other possibilities are your own fault.
(I may have forgot to mention something but you get my point)
