Ok first you start off in ToA(temple of ages)yes this does require a little running. You get a team of 8 there. (8 players/heroes, will not work with henchmen)
Than you run to CAY with your team of 8, once you get there your party box will say 8/6 members.
with this 8/6 team start the mission and bam you have a over filled team.
