There is no super secret socket method. It's pure chance (and very rare). I had really good second socket luck for a while back when I played but I've yet to make a single socket w/ mets.
I've done...
2 sock boots tc
2 sock dex ring tc
2 sock atk ring tc (was super +6 sdg... and this was back before pot lol.. so that was nice ^^)
2 sock tro arm tc
2 sock shield lotto
2 sock ears lotto
I made or won all of those within 2-3 weeks so YES you can make them. Now, this was back before potency ever existed but sockets ALWAYS have been creatable through met/db upgrades in twin city, it's just rare.
