My problem is I have a fully working cotbo V0.42 but the items from the patch 5001 are booting me.
any idea exactly which file I need to stop that from happening?
I've searched and downloaded all kinds of stuff that doesn't work, I think I need a new itemtype.txt?
Any help would be appreciated

Yes the itemtype.txt file is what you need the old one by rewlin hasn't been updated yet.
