The legendary character Frank Woods from the Call of Duty series is set to make a comeback in the upcoming game, Black Ops 6.
Frank Woods, one of the main characters of the Call of Duty: Black Ops series, was first introduced in the series' debut game. A former Marine, Frank was recruited by the CIA into the Military Assistance Command in Vietnam (SOG). Woods, who hasn’t been seen since Black Ops 2, will be returning in Call of Duty Black Ops 6!
In an update shared on the official Call of Duty blog, Frank Woods' return was announced: “Killed at the hands of a traitor. It appears that a Black Ops agent has gained access to Operator Intelligence Communications and has been identified as Frank Woods. Classified CIA documents are now out in the open, and operators are encouraged to find this information immediately.”
Frank participated in numerous covert military operations in Vietnam and was captured by the Viet Cong between 1968-1972. While Frank has appeared in later Call of Duty narratives, those periods are currently not our focus.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will focus on the timeline of the Gulf War between 1990-1991. This means we will encounter a Frank Woods who has lived through the events of Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2. In Black Ops 2, Frank was severely injured by the game’s antagonist, Raul Menendez. Menendez had released Frank, vowing to take his revenge later.
Menendez's hatred for Frank Woods is deeply personal. During an operation, Frank accidentally killed Menendez’s sister Josefina with a grenade. Although Menendez eventually fell, it is assumed that during the Black Ops 6 era, he continued to manipulate and ruin Frank’s life.
There is a lack of information about what happened to Frank during the time gap between the games. We don’t exactly know why Frank is labeled a traitor, but some fans have compelling theories. Was Frank brainwashed? Is there someone in the CIA currently targeting Frank and former SOG members? Could the “True Lies” code be a clue for brainwashing or manipulation? The answers to these questions will be revealed in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
