I have tried mannnyyyyy times w/ different programs to get my own emu server running, but it never works. A friend/ "computer guy" recently told me that cablevision has something to do w/ it. Is this true? Does ne1 here have optimum online as there internet and have an emu running?

Providers arent the problem, the data packets which the emu sends are like all the others, so there cant be a problem with it. The main problems are routers, cuz often they block the emu at any time.

Search for your router here :
You can find instructions there.

Make sure you grant the permissions to your IP, and that it didn't change. I always had this problem before because the computers at my home were all configurated to take an automatic IP. So sometimes, my mother took my ip and I couldn't host.

sounds funny
For a small home network never use DHCP, sure its easy to config but when you have less then 10 PCs in a routed Network use fixed IPs and let the router do the NATing.
