they use the leonardo r3 because its able to act as a mouse device on your pc, other arduinos like the arduino uno, zero, mkr, etc. cannot
the arduino uno r4 wifi is a very new board, and few sources exist for it at this time on other forums. the leonardo has been out for many years, i think people have been posting about it on that one forum for 4 years. i think the arduino uno r4 came out just a few months ago.
using the arduino uno r4 isnt that different from a leonardo anyway. the difference is when you spoof it you have to change the firmware (you can google how to do this online and on online forums) but then you just need to use wifi to talk to the arduino, similar to how people do with leonardo and wifi module added to it
