Talking [RELEASE] How to use photoshop to color armors + shaiya data tool + Alpha Shine fix!

Hey everyone,

Forst of all i would like to say that not all of this work is my own and i take no credit for the shaiya data.sah tool or figuring out how to fix alpha shine (the plasticy shiny texture when you import) I am also in no way shape or form affiliated with Adobe and have had no part in creating any type of hack for it.

Please give thanks accordingly!

You will need to install that onto your photoshop. If you need a tut on how to do that then just request below but its rather straightforeward. You can find a good copy of photoshop on any good bootlegging sited: piratebay etc. I wont link to this just because people might want to use CS5 Master or CS4 not CS2 like i use.

Thanks go to:
  • Lilprohacker
  • Shinru
  • Skrillex
  • xXBigBenXx
  • Klaries
  • Triest
  • Adobe

First off I'll give you a short rundown of how to use lilprohacker's shaiya data.sah tool.

Well, you'll wanna download it from the above link if you don't already have it, when you open it its a pretty simple process:

Click:
file -> Open -> data.sah (your data.sah is in the same folder as your client and updater)

When you have that up you'll see a list of all the items you have in your client and their textures.

You wanna right click on the section that say character and extract the whole file.

You will go through a lot of files so be patient with it and it will be done in no time. All the files you just extracted will be in the data section of the file you downloaded from the above link MAKE SURE YOU ALWAYS OPEN THE DDS.

Now that you've done that its time to start editing, yay! well.... not so yay if you do the editing the way I do, which is very meticulous and can be frustrating. I can't count the amount of times I've wanted to just scrap armors and start again. So those with little patience please stop reading to save yourself from getting an ulcer o.o

BACKUP YOUR FILES NOW!! It will take a few moments for it to backup everything but you'll be thankful you did, if you import and somethings wrong with it you might not be able to change it immediately! Please Make sure you back up everything!!!

Open your armors up, now every armor has a unique Identifying name, the level 25 Legendary Tathar armor that i am editing has the name ID of huwm_Torso0051 which literally means "Human Woman Mage Torso 51" so your ID's are really easy to work out.

I opened all of the armors because i intend to finish every piece, you see, ass the ID says, you wont get the full armor piece from that ID, you will only get the top of the armor, you will also need to find the corresponding boots, gauntlets and pants to go with it when editing ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOUR COLORS MATCH UP WITH THE OTHER PIECES!!! I can't stress that enough or you will end up with weird looking armors.

I like to fullscreen the piece i'm doing first so i dont get distracted by the other pieces and i always use the zoom button so i can get really close into all the pixels and make sure they line up perfectly.

You will notice that this particular armor like most of the female armors has a lot of skin in it. Simply put, you DO NOT want to color that by mistake or you will end up with purple necks and pink legs.... That doesnt look good. So the best way to ensure you don't touch it is to just delete it from the layer you're working on.

However don't do this without first creating a copy of the original or you will loose the pieces you have deleted. So over in the bottom right of the screenshots you will see a box with "Layers" written in it. Just rightclick the background copy and duplicate layer. When you have a copy turn off the little eye symbol on the ORIGINAL piece and you can start deleting.

To get these pieces deleted you will probably want to use the lassoo tool. Please see the picture below for a picture with a list of all the tools i will be using:

1: This is where the details of the tool will come up. At present it is showing the lassoo tool options.
2: The lassoo tool
3: The zoom tool
4: A list of the layers and which are visible.

Now use your lossoo tool (after you've duplicated your layer) to get rid of all the skin texture. Don't forget to turn off the original layer so you don't get confused!

You'll notice that the white bits are where the skin used to be.

Now we'll start coloring, i use the lassoo tool to change the colors of individual colors, rather than changing all the colors at once. So start selecting the piece you wanna color first with your lassoo tool. then once you've done that go to your toolbar and select: image -> Adjustments -> hue and saturation. That will be where you will change the colors. I personally like to colorise (the little tick at the bottom right of that window) forst so the colors become the same or similar. so once you've fiddled with the bars a little bit you will end up with a different color like so:

(the little dots on that armor represent the parts that have been selected) Now repeat that for the other pieces you want to change. And don't be afraid to experiment with colors a little. If everything fails you can always go back!

Now that your armors done its time to import it into your client to get a look at it! so we're going to use the data tool again but in reverse. This bit is a little more complicated to make sure you follow everything correctly!

Open your data.sah again the click on the little + symbol next to character then go down the + symbols until you are in the DDS files. There will be a lot so scroll through them until you find the armor you just worked on... always make sure its the SAME NAME as the armor you just changed or you'll get errors and all kinds of trouble.

It will propt you about decrypting and encrypting. ALWAYS CLICK YES! If you dont click yes you will end up with hollow pieces, hands missing and the like. So, always click yes!

Huzzah! You're finished! now open up your client with the updater and have a look at your armor... But... oh wait, your armors all shiny now! what on earth will i do!?

The shiny is called Alpha shine and its really simple to fix, i was kicking myself when Shinru showed me how easy it was when you save and it comes up with your N Vidia control panel make sure it looks like the below screenshots:

You can access the second one by click image options. Make sure everything looks like that when you save and your armors will be un-shiny and look great.

Oh, and as for the finished product of my armor sample?

So just follow those steps and you'll have awesome unique armors every time!!

I hope this was helpful and don't forget to thank me if it did help! I'll bump this every so often. Post in reply to this thread if you have questions, please don't spam me with pm's (i realise i typo a lot =P)

Don't forget to thank lilprohacker when/if you download his tool!!! and dont forget to thank shinru when/if you see him and he helped!!!

On a side note, you can edit almost anything within the data.sah, not just armors. You can change grasses and all kinda of things but i don't suggest trying to unpack all the files in the SAH at once as it will take a while and you sometimes get an evil error.

Thanks for Paying attention and good luck in your coloring endeavors!

[GM]Angel

##Edit:

If you don't want to go through the uploading process with the data.sah tool then heres a quick guide of how to use the 3D converter tool that Bucky has been kind enough to upload for me onto megaupload:

Ok, so the next part of the tut is how to use a really neato tool called the 3D converter. Basically you use it to view your 3DC files in a well.... 3d manner. So with that you don't have to go through the uploading procedure from above. I'm going to use an existing pair of mage pants to show you this.

So before you start you'll wanna make a folder on your desktop called 3DC & DDS. Refer to the picture for all the folders i'm going to be using.

Now, move all of your DDS and 3DC files into that new folder that you just made. Make sure you make sub folders for all of the races (Human, Elf, deatheater, Vail). You don't split up the 3DC and DDS files though, the DDS are the textures. If they aren't together then you actually won't be able to see how it looks. Refer to image below.

Then open the 3DC file of the texture you want to see! don't try and open the DDS in the 3D converter, open the 3DC files.

This is how it will look when you open it.

Up the top there are a few tools that you can use that look like boxes. Personally i'm just gunna let u play around with them and not specifically tell you what they do. Using them will show you textures and flat images. Heres some examples.

Final word of warning: Don't use this tool to change any of the animations. Like, don't make the feet bigger because once you save it, it will save as an unknown file extension and you won't be able to use it. If you try to upload that into your client it will corrupt your game.exe toos. So this is purely just to see edits and get some detail in.

In the next few weeks i'll be looking for a tool that actually saves as a 3DC file so you CAN change the way the armor looks. I think i have an idea of one, i think its called Apex Master o rsomething.

Thanks for reading ^.^

1st the "DDS plugin for Photoshop" must be present, yes obvious but can help.

2nd the DDS ("DirectDraw Surface" btw) of Shaiya are also MIP ("Multiple Image Print") file meaning that the bitmap is actually present in several sizes.
DirectX (the rendering engine) uses the bitmap that is "just good enough" to render the expected quality, consequently if you edit only the biggest image you will see your new armor only when you max-zoom-in your toon.
so check-in "Open MIP" in nvidia plug-in dialog when you open dds file from PS and edit all required images.
U realise i made this for:
a) people with photoshop and the plugins but no idea how to use it.
b) People with custom armors but no alpha shine fix
c) people who have no idea what MIP map's are.

Not everyone knows the vocab so putting an unnecessary amount of Jargon in there or millions of links would have confused them.

I would not suggest checking this box because you will have to do everything 3 times, if you dont check this box then you will be fine working off what i use. Zooming in and out you have the same picture. All you get by checking that box is 5 images that you have to do the same thing for and if u screw up, you end up having to do it again. Considering how long a process this is.... i think not checking is fine. You get the same detail and i've never had a problem with it.

Honestly people, don't overcomplicate this, its complicated and long enough. You don't need to do it 5 times over so don't. If you dont click "Load Mip Map's" it will give you the same thing but with 5x less time consumed. and if u want i can post SS's of that armor from afar to prove that it works fine.

[GM]Angel

#Edit. Decided to add them anyway to save myself the process of doing it later:

See below for pictures from afar of the armor previously done and you will notice that it works just fine without overcomplication:

But of course it can work and apparently u didn't understand why - or u prefer pictsss to 4 words of explanation, honestly not my concern, contrary to this unnecessary aggressiveness.
Who was being aggressive? I'm simply letting people know that overcomplicating it by loading mip maps is completely unnecessary for this. Unless you really want to be tricky with it its rather more than an option. Plus, its noth something that i would add to a pasic photoshop tutorial, which is what i'm aiming for here is a really basic tut on how to use ity and the best tools at your disposal. Reminding people not to color skin and showing them how to fix alpha shine which is really the big part of the post because people can dabble with photoshop but finding out how to fix alpha is like taking a stab in the dark.

Note that all the photoshop stuff is how it do it. The tutorial isn't for hard out dev's because most Dev's would know this. This is for people who need somewhere to look for help. If you want to do a really detailed one that has full vocab and every kind of way to do it then go ahead but loading MIP Maps is unnecessary and will confuse people who dont know what to do.

I suggest you make your own post that is really detailed if you feel this info necessary because im not going to confuse people by adding it and info about how/why it works.

Warning: Make back up files.
I forgot to take all the skin off so now my oracle is nice and yellow, everywhere.
but thank you misseme, its very helpful.
How can i edit rank colors like on UW shaiya, and how can i edit capes.
Also, if you use highlight colors such as bright yellow the shine shows up, not like with alpha but thers still a big light reflection that looks weird.
Also, i had fun editing Sirius shield and had fun changing the portal:

I know it soulnd weird but i think its "Kill Status SData" which u cant open in photoshop but if someone from UW shaiya wants to let us know that would be awesome. Honestly i've never tried =P so i might be wrong. And yeah i'll add in about backing up. If you wanna get rid of the edits u can by just setting your version back and reupdating it. Thats what i do if i screw up lol but any other edits you have on your client that arent patched will be gone too! I'll upload a place that you can save everything into in a few days that way everything is organised and ready for patching ^.^

Tyler is right, thanks. The name of the file is Grade.tga in the interface section of the lil pro hacker tool. Just extract the files the same way you would character and have a browse, of it, tga files are good to open in photoshop as is, just don't delete anything from around it but changing the colors will be a blast.

::WARNING:: They are tiny, literally so zoom in and make sure u dont get any of the white squares!

Happy coloring!

Now, We all know that when you color armors that they go all plasticy and yuck in game, there is a way to stop that however, but Ben can't remember and i'm ovbiously missing it in photoshop. It's probably one tiny little setting that i'm supposed to change but fml i can't find it. So if anyone here knoiws how to fix it then it would be greatly appreciated and would get many thanks from Shaiya Vengeance staff and players, as well as a few other servers i'm sure. Why is this useful? When Shaiya has many patches applied the data file becomes fragmented and messy. Using this tool along with the Data SAF Extractor Chinese Tool you can make a "CLEAN" Data file that can be used as if the Shaiya version was just installed. This will lead to better performance and smaller file sizes. This also could be used to re-combine modified data files as well, such as new model, textures etc (would be client-sided though). It does NOT include the CRC file...
