u need windows OS for sql server
and u will lose many of ur server net speed at send and receave data from sql server to ur linux server .
at last it's take from me 3 mints to hack ur server and access as root admin. ..
at last buy Windows server better .

You can add mssql on linux.Also you can run sro from wine.
But i don't think so the new wine ver run it any more.
Try it any way.
For ubuntu , mint...
sudo apt-get install wine
