There is no problem to run private server on VM. No difference with a VPS (or minor differences). Just follow tutorial and if you got problem, ask for help on forum. :D

Yeah I think its possible to run it on a Virtual Machine

You just have to add the required installations such as DirectX , ++Reds and it should work fine as far as I know

Preferrably on Oracle VM VirtualBox
