Even with an updated FFXI, MXI doesn't load up correctly.
Any ideas?

Okay if you want to just be able to update your FFXI here is what you have to do:

Download this:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]

And go into your Final Fantasy XI folder (c: >> program files >> playonline >> square enix >> final fantasy XI) and everything that isn't in a folder, which would be all the stuff at the bottom, delete it. Extract the file you downloaded. And then copy it into the FFXI folder. Load up PlayOnline. Then either:
-------------------
Update PoL.
Select the option for an existing member.
Use 1234567 as all the info.
Register the account.
--------------------
After you load up PlayOnline choose 'Check Files.'
Select Final Fantasy XI.
Then check files or repair. (it said one of the two.. lol..)
Then after it does it's magic, you are updated.

I'm just wondering how this actually works and what it does..

I'm thinking of downloading or buying the disks (4gb but slow download or about £4 off ebay)
So would i just install the game through playonline and update it as normal, (oh god the endless update) and once it's done that i would do as you said - deleting those files and copy over the stuff in the rar, or do i not have to update it at all?

you must update even you have the discs...
i installed my discs and i had to download 4 hours :D with the trial it should be the same...

it could be that it stands 7h to update but at least i only need 4h..

Ok thanks lacri.. Oh god don't remind me.. My internet kept cutting out on the update for xbox, 18,000 files or something ridiculous..
I hope to god i don't go over my bandwidth limit again xD
And I know the 14 day trials ended now :*(

So just to make it clear, i install the game and playonline - update it fully, then do as flee says and delete and extract those files and such...

this will enable you to use the meteorxi for bypassing POL...

If you want to play the real game, I'd buy the disks, because you do need a registration code to play. Heh. But, if you just want to private server it up, then just download it. If you need a link I can cover you on that. Takes a little bit, but it has all the expansions.

And if you have windows vista or windows 7 you have to install a different version of PlayOnline so it is compatible with your computer.

Doing all the stuff we figured out / explained will allow you to not have / pay for a regular FFXI account. You won't have to load through PlayOnline. Meteor XI is designed to allow you to just simply bypass PlayOnline and just straight to Final Fantasy XI.

you dont realy need the win7 compatible POL..
If you can install and start the old POL the update gives you the compatible too.

I've installed and updated ffxi now, (i have win7 and didnt need to bother with 'special' POL it worked fine) and i'm just trying to install the server and such.. but oh my jesus sweet god almighty....

Followed your tutorial, sometimes it gets stuck and doesn't respond at start service but the main problem is....

When i get in game after i've made a character the screens black - but i can see the overlay (text and menu stuff) and i can move around etc and type....

can i host a p server for ca 100 -150 people on it ??
or is pc with a p4 and 3.0ghz 1mb lvb2,2gig ddr400 ram and 2x u320 on raid 1 scsi better ??:confused:

you must test how many people can join your server without lag!
you can connect with internet.. use hamatchi and it will work..

but i had a strange bug...
when i startet mxi and login screen comes up it isnt in windowed mode...
thats not the starnge thing !
the resolution was 640x480 with badest grafix settings and i had at the left and right site of the windows black borders o.O
in my config i had evereything on the highest settings even with toolsEU and tools (EU and JP Configs)...
then i used ffxicalculator...
doesnt work :confused:
i tried all what i know...
nmothing changed...
then next day pxi crashed again (it crashes very often...)
and when i restartet pxi + mxi, whoooa !!!
i had the settings i choosed ^^
i have no idea what happened to the configs or to mxi or whatelse,

have you set that it should be on window mode?
it is on the first page in the tools.

pxi crashes in few zones.. but it should work for the normal FFXI...

what dont go in pxi:

-Auction house (inportant for the game!)
-bazaar (inportant as well!)
-few zones.
-some bugs with zoneing (false position)
-many armors and weapons.

Hey, Im having an issue here, my server run fina and FFXI starts with no prob. I create my char, select country, everything ok. but when I register player and click to start, the game tells me to link to a handle. the problem is I cant create a handle, when i give it a name and hit ok it gives me an error and nothing happens. if I choose start anyway with a blank handle the game hangs with a message saying "setting up connection". looking at server stats, it says that it lost connection with the client, but geez, they're both on localhost... ¬¬
I disabled firewall and nothing. tried diferent versions os both pxi an mxi and still nothing. any ideas????

updated POL to latest, still nothing.
maybe theres a way to insert those handle info via sql directly in tables so i just have to select it in game and not create it?
I cant install any expansion besides zilarth, or the game wont start.

good morning everyone, I have updated the POL and ffxi files, and still everytime i load mxi, it fails to receive the packets, i keep getting the server connection done message and the received of account packet failed error 10054, could it be because im using the localhost 127.0.0.1 ip, i created a hamachi account but have no ideia what to do with it, please excuse my noobness, thank you :)

Yes, I have the same problem, the very same error as Pimplimp. If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated. It's nice to know im not the only one with this error.

the only way i was able to get it to connect is by using my external IP address, i tried using the hamachi ip but that doesnt work, so try putting your external IP as the server IP address in the client.ini for MXI

i also want to know if anyone else is having an issue where they cant create a new character from using mxi, but i can make one if i use the pxiclient, when i try t o make one with mxi after i log in always says error 3322 and description is in jp but the error code means the name is already taken and ive tried random names and still wouldnt let me make one.

I managed to get it working by deleting my old SQL database and executing the PXI6.4 SQL file. I noticed the servers error was trying to search for SQL tables that weren't there. And the PXI6.4 server file had them. Problem fixed :)

I have another minor problem though, how do you use GM commands?

I found the notepad files that tell you them, but they wont work. Do you have to change something in SQL before you're able to use them? Does the server even consider me a GM yet?

Edit: Nevermind, they were working the whole time I suppose.

I have yet another problem though. So far, I have only experienced it with Bastoks Mog House, but when I exit it, it seems im underneath all of the rendering. It glitches out and I cant go anywhere. At the time, the server said "account packet error 10054". Please help, I want to play so badly.

thanks eternitydragon but it didn't work, the only way i can run meteor is if the serveip in client is the localhost ip, 127.0.0.1 or else it says its looking to log on to pxi client, when i run meteor it gets to the incoming packet: 1, sending account-id, part and then it disconnects from the server

if you are running windows vista/7 you need to right click run as admin or else i t will constantly do that my friend who i set up to connect to my server had the same problem last night.

I too am having issues with Fleee's upload. Since this is the reason I joined Elite Vpers, I'd love to get my hands on those files (not that I won't participate with EV other than this, of course- I joined for a reason).

Unless of course... I updated my POV program. Is this all that Fleee's package was, the updated files?

Thank you Flee! I believe your instructions were flawless except for explaining that if you set a password you have to type in the password in the server's pxi configuration. that had me spinning for a while.
i cant believe it im running my own FFXI server! haha take that square enix...
i've only played for a little while now, ive figured out how to increase the exp rate which is good for solo play or duo play (as i intend to do).
don't get me wrong im extremely grateful for this chance to play again like this, but the mobs are not like the game right? i step out into gustasberg and all the mobs are even match, not only that but i beat an even match handily and then later on an easy prey forces me to zone. there must be something wrong with the math there...
also signet doesnt work.
it's still playable as far as im concerned, and i realize part of the enjoyment is in the control you can have over your character and the environment using the special commands but I want to try to experience FFXI like i had in the days of old grinding out mobs and leveling up (albeit at a faster pace) anyone know how i can help make the program run more like it does in the real game. also I have the expansion packs, will they work with this?
if i could edit the game more i would but i dont know any programming languages, however I will help out with anything else. i would like to see the mob math be a bit more precise as well as shop items becoming less expensive (increase the drop rate right? but the thing is the items' prices seem to increase exponentially according to level while drops always seem to be worth about the same making the higher level equipment rather overpriced...)
