The Overwatch revolution is underway. The game is about to go free-to-play with its new version scheduled for October 4th. Two years after its official announcement, Overwatch 2 is finally becoming a reality and will completely change the game's recipe. The games are going from six to five players, new game modes are appearing and a new business model aims to revive the title and its community. Gone are the lootboxes and characters unlocked at release, everything will now be done via a battle pass.
Overwatch is inspired by its competitors to become a service game available on all platforms. It's already possible to request a profile merge (if you're playing on multiple platforms) so you can find all your unlocked content under one Battle.net account. And since Overwatch is nothing without its cast of colorful characters, Blizzard is counting on new faces to promote its game. Two new agents were already present during the betas of the game. Sojourn and the Junker Queen have spiced up the game for players, but now a third character has arrived to claim her moment of glory.
Finally a new support
After a new DPS and a new tank, support players can look forward to the arrival of Kiriko, a healer with innovative gameplay. Following leaks over the past few days, Blizzard has released the first trailer for the character. Able to heal and immunize while benefiting from a mobility worthy of Genji and Hanzo, this little one is already shaping up to be an essential character for future battles. Kiriko will be available to players of Overwatch 1 without further delay. Sojourn and the Junker Queen can be unlocked instantly with the purchase of a battle pass. Otherwise, you will have to reach their levels in the free version of the battle pass.
Speaking of the battle pass, Blizzard also just revealed a season trailer, finally revealing what the new business model has in store for players. New cosmetics are being introduced, such as weapon charms similar to those available in Valorant. Of course, there will be epic and legendary skins for our favorite characters, as well as a new mythic skin for Genji. Overwatch 2 promises to be packed with content and a revival of the title on October 4 on PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
