Remember the times when you were curious how well a certain game was doing? How many sales does it have on Steam? Are people playing it a lot? How about the reviews? Steam Spy was your pal to help you out there. Sadly, a lot of that information will now be unavailable and it will eventually be closing down. Whereas it still contains some information it won’t be able to store more information as it can no longer be accessed.
Here is the link from Steam Spy’s twitter handle.
Yup, sadly so. Even though the change in privacy settings can be considered good – depending on your stance, they have made your games list inaccessible through public means, meaning websites such as Steam Spy will be unable to get that information. If you are supporting Steam Spy through Patreon they have announced that they are likely to cancel it as it doesn’t provide enough information to consider having it. If you are currently supporting them through Patreon, have a look at this link for a Status update.
Please note, only people who are currently supporting them can see the contents.
What are your thoughts on the situation, is it good that the privacy settings have been changed? Do you think Steam Spy closing down will have an impact on the industry? Comment down below!
