Square Enix has finally released Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. The new game is based on the Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System version as opposed to the original FFXII. This is important to keep in mind as the game is a little bit different to both versions of the original game.
So, what's new?
The Job System
Naturally, there's a job system in the game. This is taken from the Japanese exclusive International Zodiac Job System game. There's a wide range of jobs in this game for the player to assign to their character to help them grow in new ways. The original FFXII did not have a job system, so this is an all new system to the Western regions which never received the Japanese exclusive.
Trial Mode
It's important to note that the developers did make this game easier than the original Final Fantasy XII. However, they've implemented a special Trial Mode for hardcore players. It's an entirely separate option in the menu, but players can transfer over their saved characters. This mode has players fight through 100 different battles which increase in difficulty and complexity.
It should be enough to satisfy hardcore gamers.
High Speed Mode
While this may sound like a different game mode, it's triggered by pressing a button, so the characters move faster through the world. This was implemented due to players getting frustrated at the slow movement speed in the original game. In addition to faster movement speed, the game also includes a better guidance system, so players don't get lost and a new autosave feature. This quality of life additions should vastly improve the gameplay experience.
There are also some other additions such as an overlay map, shorter load screen times, English and Japanese voices with high-quality voice support. As expected, there are also high-resolution upgrades for the entire game.
