Set in on top of the Unreal Engine 3, Forge is being pitched as a first person shooter with the tactical elements of an MMORPG. This is a relatively new concept, and is hard to grasp without actually seeing gameplay. The idea they're going for seems to be a PvP-only FPS game that requires skill and tactics to win, and requires no real dedication for progression.
Timothy Alvis, COO/CTO of Dark Vale Games claims that they are taking inspiration from Half-Life, Unreal, World of Warcraft and Dark Age of Camelot for their FPS/RPG online mashup.
Their hearts seem to be in the right place, and despite this being their debut on the market, the team is no collection of newbies. I'm finding it really hard to tell whether this game actually looks good or not, because the trailer you see below is just a teaser, and we have nothing but a concept to judge by.
Forge is a PC-only game due to launch later this year, promising top quality at an indie price. You can check out their website and sign up for the coming closed beta here.
