Hi all... As it seems there is no tutorial for userbars so I tried to make one In this tutorial I'll be making a simple Mozilla Firefox userbar. Hope it helps...
1. First off we start by creating a new image with size of 350 width and 19 height.
2. We need to fill a background which in many cases is some color around the color of the wanted render. Also by using a gradient background the userbar looks more sophisticated and more professional.
We've used a lighter and darker orange color in a linear gradient.
3. Second off we need a pattern. The pattern in different styles is different such as lines, dots, colors, brushes etc. Now we are going to use a diagonal line as it is easiest to make and it looks pretty good.
For this make a new file with the size of 6 width by 6 height (6x6). Zoom it as much as you can and make the background transparent. Now take the pencil tool, and make a diagonal line with black color (the color can be selected by taste). When you are done with the line make it a pattern.
Now select the Pattern Stamp Tool and select the new pattern we've just created. Set the opacity around 30-40% as you think is the best and fill the background with it.
4. The most important part is the render. Find or make a render of the desired subject (in this cases Mozilla Firefox icon) and modify it so it will suit the image and can be seen really good. Play with it a bit so you can find your perfect size, place and angle.
5. Sometimes you need to add effects to the render so to divide them or just to "beautify" it the userbar. Now we've added semi-glow and drop shadow.
6. Next we need to add the text. 95% of the userbars use the "Visitor" font, so we are going to use it too.
7. The last part is the transparent ellipse (also used in other shapes). Select it so its bottom part be on the top of the image. So here is what we got:
P.S. There can be done major modifications to the userbar! This is the simplest one.
Hope I helped someone!
