Team Fortress 2 is now FREE! That's right, it's free forever with no limitations.
On june 20rd, Valve has announced that they'll be making their best buy to play multiplayer shooter free for a week (on the count of the Uber Update). The event was such a success, that on June 23rd they have made the decision to keep things the way they are - FREE.
Team Fortress 2 is a first person class based shooter by Valve, you can get a copy of the game for free on "Steam". The game was frequently updated, so the download size reached a healthy 7 GB download and 10 GB after you install it.
The game has micro-transactions, you can buy in game cosmetic items and some other stuff for real cash. You also have the option to buy a "premium" membership. If you've ever spent any real money on the game, like buying it in any way (steam, retail) or just bought any in-game items, you're a premium member!
Here's the difference between the free and the premium user.
Free
Backpack: 50 slots
Items: Standard
Crafting: Limited blueprints
Trading: Receive items only
Gifting: Can receive gifts
Premium
Backpack: 300 slots (expandable up to 1000)
Items: Standard, Rare and Cosmetic
Crafting: All blueprints
Trading: Full trading
Gifting: Can give and receive gifts
Nothing else changed! Every map, character and game-mode is free!
The next bit of news is about Hellgate:Global a hack n' slash mmorpg published by T3Fun, the will start it's open beta on the june 30th.
The game was originaly made by "Flagship studios", on 2007 October 31st, sadly enough the game wasn't very popular and the studio was shut down due to bankruptcy.
Now T3Fun picked it up worked on it and made it free.
The game is a Post-apocalyptic instance based mmorpg with persistant world elements. The bigger part of the game is played in randomly generated instance dungeons. While the social part (finding friends, trading, and stuff like that) is done in social-hub like areas.
The game has an interesting mix between first and third person gameplay. If you are a melee character, you can use only the third person point of view. But if you use a ranged weapon, a firearm for example, you can enter first person mode (third person mode is optional at this point).
The game is story driven, but I won't spoil it.
