A collection of things as random as my mood and personality.
What are we looking for in mmo’s
Many of us are hooked to one game and cant stop playing it for days, months, or even years (in my case). But what do we want from a game, what makes it perfect for us? Today I’ll be talking about game features and what I think makes them great for me. So let’s get started.
• Graphic’s
The first thing we see in a game is its graphic’s, it’s the first thing that makes us choose if we are going to play or not. People say that a good first impression is very important. And it’s true, not many of us would play a game with old and “boxy” world. Luckily as games step into the twenty-first century they also bring in new, better looks. Here’s a screenshot of a game called Nanovor back “then” when it was released, and a screenshot of the updated version of Nanovor “Evolution” this is a browser game, so don’t be so harsh.
• Characters
An important part of any game is its character selection. Before we play we make a character, and that can tell us about the overall quality of the game. If the game has a lot of class selections, loads of race’s and a lot of body customization. We can tell that the makers of the game really worked on it, and did a great job!
On the other hand if a game has only a basic class and race selection, I can deal with it. But one thing that a lot of game makers do, is gender-lock, that’s the only mistake that a lot of games do and really mess up the gameplay with the basic stereotype’s. (mages are girls, knights are guys, etc)
• Gameplay
The third thing we do is check out the controls, “click around”, check out the starting area, see what NPC’s do. Then get to the main attraction of the game, if its an MMORPG, then we go and find something to grind on, if it’s a racing game, we find someone to race with and so on. But what I always look for in gameplay, are the little things, like I think in some shooters u have to time the reload so it hits a mark, and u reload faster (Alien Swarm, and some other games).
• Sound
Sound is an important part of gameplay, no boss-battle experience would be fully complete without an epic sound track playing in the background. But sometimes they are just annoying and ruin a fun and awesome game. Its good to know that some game makers think about that and add MP3 players to the games they make. Like in Dekaron (use to be know as 2Moons) players can add their own music and play it anytime they want.
• Storyline
A good game must have a good storyline, but most people just ignore it. If you’re the type of person that reads everything that the NPC’s write in the selection tab, that must be as important to you as it is to me. I just don’t feel any fun doing a grinding quest if I don’t know why I’m doing it.
Well, that’s the end of this little article, I hope u liked it. And if u didn't like it, please comment and tell me what can be improved.
