[Question]A good start ?

12/04/2010 14:02 [X]-Cape#1
Ok , so i tried it before , failed and now i want to try it again ( and i really want to learn this time ) . After watching alot of tutorials i finally understood something about c# and i want to give it a try but i don't really know what source should i use ( i can't use just a base because i have no idea what to do ) so i was thinking on using arco's 5165 source ( yeah , i know it has alot of bugs and it's unstable but after looking into it i understood how to add/remove npc, spawns, portals, mobs and even made some shitty npc's just to see if i can do it ) .
So , my question is : using that source will help me understand something or should i use another one ? I wanted to use hybrid's source but i have no idea how to use it :)

I guess we all have to start somewhere so this is what i would do

I would get hybrids source and get a reference source wether this 5165 or w.e

Take a look on what needs to be done in hybrids source then look in your reference source now take a look and see how it is coded and code it your own unique way this is how i learned
12/04/2010 14:11 [X]-Cape#3
that is a good idea but first i must spend a few days on the 5165 to learn how things go and maybe try doing some npc, commands, quests on my own .

If you do that your going to end up learning bad coding habits
12/04/2010 14:40 [X]-Cape#5
i'm so confused right now . i look at all those things and i don't understand a thing

Take a code snippet of them.
Like the variable or something.

Go to google and paste it.

Then u will find the defination.

You can also right click > Go to defination.
Then it will open Metadata wich explains the varaibles also :)

dumb question . how can i make my play.exe work ? because when i click on it it starts autopatching and if i click bypass it stops . and if i open conquer.exe it tell me to open play.exe

Use Nullables loader or find a cracked Conquer.exe and Server.dat

You will be able to find them with a quick search on the forums

if i was you id start off smaller first on understanding functions, pointers, varables, bool, all thos types of things and how they work.. It will help you understand a source a little bit more.

Honestly i jumped head first into the deep end

Literal explanation i jumped into the source started coding npcs then eventually moved to other things

Then stuck at one point went back and learned the basics but thats just me
