Private Server (packet/sniffing discussion)

So many of us are tired of a non responsive GM and lack of updates/news; on the server (regarding gpots, exp rate, drop etc..) so why not do something ourselves? I started messing around with WPE Pro today (packet sniffing) and am working on a Rupee hack/packet.. The goal is to either freeze the current amount of rupees you have (making it unlimited) or gaining new amounts and freezing after desired amount.

I started out by going to the grocery (in Horizon)and buying the same item a couple times so I can locate the Send packet for Rupees. I then bought a 2nd item of greater value to verify the previous packet. For some reason I'm getting conflicting results.

If there are any volunteers that would like to help on this project (please copy/paste the packets from your grocery buying).

Please note the only command I am recording in WPE is the Decide command (after i chosen the grocery) which will send and receive the rupee packets.

As of now I don't have much more information, but will update as I continue to mess around with it. It seems to be a fair assumption that this server has no protection what so ever, which would make this do able..

Why would I waste time; if it was just to scam on a private sever that could go down at any moment like last time? Its for the current people on there like my self, who can't afford armor or weapons since the drop rates are so horrible and there's no gpots. And if you look at other private servers in the other forum sections; you'll see that there are many people packet hacking. Its just for fun.. Jeebus what's dumb about wanting to afford R4 armor on an R6 or 7 toon?
Also how can it be a scam if everyone is able to do? What the hell, your mouth is talking again you might want to look into that...

Also I just started out with the rupee's since I figured it would be easiest. A dupe hack would be much preferred, but that always seems to be the harder hack..

I like the idea, the GM/Owner is a complete douche bag. Unfortunately I don't have too much experience with WPE but could try if you let me know how its done. I'm off to work now but send me your msn and we can test it out when I get back.

I did not start anything, i just posted my opinion, You want to start some flame war which i won't contest in. I think that hacking on Private Server where someone had to put hard work in to make it is just dumb, so it hacking on official servers... Would You like someone to hack on Your server? Think about that in this way.

I think that everything from hits/hp/exp/you name it is strictly server sided, including everything that has to do with ruppees. I you manage to find a way, congratulations. But I think it will be hard.

A good start would be to understand the IP data.
I have messed with it as well, but all the data are cryped,
so you will not find an easy way to read it.

I my case I used the "update" Button on the big hand in the empty lobby of Ursa Cavern in the middle of the night.
(( So I had no other people around and also NO shouts for a few min. ))

The pakets had all the same length, but each looked diffrent.

I was hoping to find some kind of header byte for each packet, but there was none!
I think this means they crypt each paket that leaves the server and the only way to get something usefull out of the TCP stream is to find a way to decrypt it.

Sadly this forum has changed into a pure KTS/pServer forum and it is hard to find the interesting threads.

rupees are server side, you can change values easily, but it will be client side only, you wont be able to use them, in order to really change rupee you need to ... basically hack in server and change rupee amount.
same goes for all mmorpgs, i have tried simple things like this with Cheat Engine, but i dont have much experience with it, but im sure you cant do that without hacking server.

True. Of course cheat engine only modifies values in your own memory... If you actually read anything then you would know he wasn't talking about using cheat engine. Go read about WPE and then come back here :rtfm:
