There's a solution to the piece of cloth.
You convert the .dds file to .psd which more than likely this was done in the making of them.
And edit the alpha channel using Photoshop or any other tool that offer's the alpha channel editing to be done.
While viewing the alpha channel you'll notice that the background will be solid white.Everything thats layered above the alpha channel in the white area is visible to the client.Just color the area of the cloth black in the alpha channel and then save it.Loading it on the client the flap will be gone.
I've got a old one i started, where i put fishnets on the arms but i havent finished it yet.I'll post the .dds and .psd file for that in a second.Since i never finished it maybe you'd like to.

You'll notice a few marks on the back and those was basically my guide lines before i got into texturing it a bit better.And the skin pigments is still off.
