how do i know what is the maximum number of players that my server can handel

10/11/2010 15:15 { Angelius }#1
we all know that .
to many players = lots of lag

so i wanna make sure that the source that im using can handle the enough number of players before the lag thing starts and is there a way to find out with out putting the server online for public

Dunno that but the max connections that your server can handle it's setup when you install MySQL

uh huh thats for sure but testing it is the problem i wanna make sure that if i set it to take a 400 ppl
its not gonna be to much to deal with
simply the question is .
is my server base good Enough to deal with that number of players?
and is there away to find out with out putting the server online
i mean there must be a way to find out

get a lot of people to log on at once and do stuff.
10/11/2010 17:45 { Angelius }#5
lol you make it sound like its so easy to get it done :P
and if that was an available option!! i woldent ask for another way to do it with out putting the server online
10/11/2010 17:55 _tao4229_#6
That's the only real option.
Or have one person log in tons of clients.

Write a standalone for your server to test performance, thats the easiest way to do it effectively.

also use calculations!

Eg: get 50 people logged and check how much system resources are being used vs no one logged. Then see how much remaining ram, processor speed or upload speed you have remaining on your host.

lol WTF

The number of players your server can "handel" is likely the factorial of a random side of a six-sided die.

1-720 players (lol).

I wouldn't say it is a rumor it's pretty much true lol the 5165 source is a unstable peice of garbage and if you guys haven't figured that out yet then i feel sorry for you.

It may handle more then 40 but not very much more before it starts spazzing out with errors scrolling in server console with exception errors because tanel still hasn't learned how to put in properly code c# or add sanity checks on any of his coding same as his 5017 amung other problems they have. It eventually freezes up or crashes same as all his sources once a load is put on it there just piss poor coded. So if your just wanting a server to mess around on with some friends it is fine but if you plan on making it a public server don't bother everyone will quit after you have to keep restarting it every 1-2 hrs when it constantly errors out and crashes like every public 5165 based server out there lol.
