There has been made alot of threads regarding that subject. Maybe some of them will help you out.

Don't run the autopatcher, just run conquer.exe directly (with "blacknull" argument). I heavily suggest you have a seperate NTFS/FAT partition with windows on so you can update it reasonably easily.

The autopatcher actually worked for me.

I used wine-0.9.32 (latest) installed from the tarball with "winver" set to "Windows 98".
However, once i got to the login screen, it didnt display the mouse cursor. From what i know there is an issue with hardware cursors in wine.

I also tried with Cedega 5.2.9.
This time the mouse was displayed, but i couldnt log in because the screen was all messed up.
I mean it looked ok (almost) but the input boxes for user and pass were not where they were displayed.

After a bit of f*kin around with it i finally got to log in but the graphics were buggy.
But at least i didnt have problems with the mouse cursor, and that makes me happy ;)
