Shutdown Timer

This little program shuts down the computer after a specific time. This is one scenario where this tool is useful (why I made it):

You live in a house where you do not make the rules.
You are not allowed to have your computer running overnight.
There is a risk a parent may see the computer is running in the morning before you manage to turn it off.
Solution: have this program turn your computer off after the specified time limit (i.e make it turn off at 6 a.m, before anyone gets to see the computer)

That is just one of many scenarios you could use this program, be imaginative :D

Read the Readme.txt for a quick run through of how it works and how to abort.

...And remember: you run the program at your own risk - if you lose anything as a result of use of this program , I will not be held responsible. Moral of the story: do not have it shutdown you're computer if you have unsaved coursework open or something... Ideally, only have Conquer running.

Nice, what can we expect in future versions?
01/08/2007 21:20 pokey2#4
Well I was thinking about a function that tested your internet connection, so if there was no connection, you must have d/ced and therefore there is no point in the computer remaining on so it would just shutdown...

Future versions will also have a better GUI... tickbokes and whatnot ^^

I doubt many people will find this useful... I am essentially making this purely for myself, but hey if I can get any +k/suggestions from it, then all the better:p

Speaking of which... Anyone got any suggestions for it?

there is a shutdown command built in windows XP, its called shutdown.exe. if you learn to use it, it will be much easier. That is what i use, every morning, i leave my house, i set it to shutdown 3 hours after i leave.

try opening the command window and type in shutdown /?

this works for windows XP, sure you can download the shutdown executable off the net too.

I'll give it a try :)

New ideas?

- Shutdown if the pc suddenly comes out of the standby mode... for those who live with their parents can just say it had an error while closing down or something? Idk if that's possible.
- Another one could be place the timer in the system bar if possible (that's just a design freak you hear talking right now)

I will repost tomorrow... the pc I'm using to download with doesn't run with XP so this might do the trick... since most of those programs just shutdown when they are done and not when they are ALL done.

rescanned at home with AVG and norton - results are clean :) isnt English so doesn't help much if I post it since you guys prolly wouldn't be able to read it.
