If you have Photoshop Cs2 With a .dds plugin you can edit .dds files through that and if you use the [Only registered and activated users can see links. just remember the interface has changed a bit ... personally ild take the 1070 interface then paste in your current interface and it will be a near complete interface then just edit the dds one by one :)

if you need the dds plug-in for photoshop i can sort ya for that ...

if you don't have photoshop then maybe you could use gimp ... it has a dds plug-in available which is kinda like the photoshop one (i prefer the photoshop one as the gimp one has these funny mini-map things in it)

the other option is a dds -> jpg converter ... there are many of them around if ya search for them

ild surgest working on them directly because then you can make the alpha channel to w/e you want ... EG.. if you wanted to make it semi transparent you would use a gray in the alpha channel)

on another note maybe someone could upload a complete copy of the interface to make making a new interface easy (so that you don't have to get a hold of the 1070 client)
