Part 0: Why did you make a new thread, n00b?
====================================
I wanted this thread to be the end-all and be-all of changing fonts. I know there are some other threads about the same topic, but some of them are outdated and no longer work, others just aren't in a helpful format. This thread will explain the problem, explain how to avoid it and finally, how to fix it. Please note that I tend to be longwinded, skip to Part 4 if you don't want to listen to my monologue.
====================================
Part 1: Why do I need to change my font?
====================================
The standard font used in Conquer Online has a major flaw. If you have been playing for at least a short while, you have probably noticed it.
The flaw is that the number one and the lowercase L look identical, as well as the number zero and the uppercase O. Since Conquer's first server was put up, this flaw has been used again and again to scam people.
If someone had a character named Bob011, people could fake it by making BobO11, BobOl1, BobO1l, etc. Especially in cases were Bob011 is a trusted, well known and possibly wealthy person, someone that created a "clone" could wreak havoc.
====================================
Part 3: Not falling victim to this scam
====================================
*Check the level of anyone you trade with. If your friend Bob011 is level 126 and the person you're trading with is level 1, there is clearly a problem.
*Check the equipment of people you trade with. Perhaps your friend Bob011 is only level 50. In this case, it would be easy for someone to get a character named BobOll to level 50, so make sure that you check the equipment of the person you're trading with.
*If possible, have an alternate way to check the identity of people you trade with. You probably have all of your close CO friends on MSN/YIM or AIM, if you don't, you should get them on there. You can also ask them to send you a message on the Conquer Online official forums if you know they have an account there.
*Doublecheck the name using another program. If you press [Shift] and click on the person you're dealing with, you will pick up their name. You can also do this by pressing [Alt] and clicking on something that they have said. Copy and paste the name into Microsoft Word or another program (change the font if necessary) to check who you're trading with.
*Make sure to "clone" yourself so that other people can't. If you yourself have a name like Bob011, make sure that you also created all of the clones, that way no one else can do it. It's best to avoid names that can be cloned entirely.

Part 4: Fixing the problem
====================================
Well, now that I've told you alllllll about how to avoid being scammed, why not just fix the problem so that you don't have to deal with it?
Go into your Conquer Online folder and find a subfolder named "ini," find the file named "Font.ini" and you will see some random characters followed by the number 14. The random characters are the font that is being used by CO, the number 14 is the font size. Change the random characters to any font you like and the next time you boot up Conquer Online, you will find that your font has changed!
Unfortunately, far from every font will work with Conquer Online, in fact, most fonts do not work well. Furthermore, the client will crash on startup if your font name contains any spaces. I don't know how to use fonts with spaces, I have tried ommiting the spaces and I have tried replacing them with an underscore ( _ ), neither way works. At this time, the best font that I know of is called DOSLike, I will attach it to this post.
It seems that the only fonts that work in the CO client are "monospace" fonts, but feel free to experiment. If you find another font that works well, PLEASE post it. Note that some nice fonts lack some of the characters needed to be able to play CO. Hop around for a while looking at character names and guild names and experiment by typing some stuff out before you post to tell us that a font works well.
