[Guide] Eliminating Lag

06/20/2010 23:50 Alwaho#1
First off before you read this alot of peoples lag reducing ideas are in here, so please give them thanks to!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, so i have posted a few things to help you be lagless. But this is my first time that i will teach you how to patch onto/ close to nexon's server. So here it goes, If you guys have read my other threads... then you should have TcpOptimizer. If not google it and download it. Once you have TcpOptimizer go to google and type in, "Speedtest" Or for the lazy ones go here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] Now, Find Los Angeles.(for the idiots who don't know where it is) Its in southern California.Click it and the test should begin. After the test ends, Open TcpOptimizer. Then look at the big numbers near the top with the bar. Go back to the speedtest site. Look at your download speed, memorize it. Then go to TcpOptimizer and put the numbers near the top closest to you download speed. Then click Optimize settings. Then In the MTU Box type in 576. Press apply changes and it will ask to restart your computer. Click yes. Run mabinogi and test your latency. If you did it correctly your lag should have dropped dramatically.

Tiara moonshine: Tiara moonshine is popular but some people dont know the password. The password is.... devcat. tiara moonshine will also help your lag go down the toilet. lol. I hope i helped.
Edit:The Tiara moonshine link is right here[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] just have to type inthe password

Kukutune: This is a old program and im not sure if people still use it, I have been trying to get it to work better than it already does, Here is the download link:[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] If anyone has ever done anything to make this program better please PM me so i can update this :D.

Thanks for reading.Hope it helped, and if it did thank me.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: Thank Omgjesus for posting this, it really does help for kukutune. So thank him also :D

you guys need to forget using programs to mess with your tcp settings just watch a vid on it in youtube.

as for kukutune. heres what i gathered from it

MTU is Maximum Transmission Unit <-- this determins largest physical package in bytes. Ideally, you want the MTU to be the same as the smallest MTU of all the networks between your machine and a message's final destination. Otherwise, if your messages are larger than one of the intervening MTUs, they will get broken up (fragmented), which slows down transmission speeds.

so choose either 576 , if you have connection speed higher than 10mb+ u can do 1469 or 1500. 1500 is default. i would play with the settings and figure out what works for you.

TAF junk has to do with the dword32 TcpAckFrequency set it to 1 to dissable nagle.

RWIN (TCP Receive Window) is the amount of data that a computer can accept without acknowledging the sender. If sender has not received acknowledgement for the first packet it sent, it will stop and wait and if this wait exceeds a certain limit, it may even retransmit. This is how TCP achieves reliable data transfer.
Even if there is no packet loss in the network, windowing can limit throughput. Because TCP transmits data up to the window size before waiting for the packets, the full bandwidth of the network may not always get used.

Set your RWIN at depending on connection speed.(recommended by speedguide.net)

64240 (up to 2 Mbit lines)
128480 (1-5 Mbit lines)
256960 (2-14 Mbit lines)
513920 (8-30 Mbit lines) <--- i use this but i could get away with 1027840
1027840 (25-60 Mbit lines)

in retro. try kukutune see if it helps reduce a little bit of your latency issues if not then google up tcp ack frequency and tcp no delay.

its on speedguide.net and as well as tutorials on youtube.

Thread by Alwaho:
Edit:These lag reducers help a lot/at least for me.

First one is called tuneUp utilities.. I dont recomend buying it.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]

This next one is called Advanced SystemCare. Or Care for short. I also do not recomend buying this program.[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] With this just use turbo nothing else...

And the third one is called game booster. Its totally free and helps quite a bit.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]

4th and most well known one is CCleaner. this is the best one out of all of the lag reducers i know. [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]

The last one and most basic one... is to disable nagle. Check youtube and it will show you how to disable it.

Also if you have a laptop.. Turn the power settings to high. And try Turning your theme to windows classic it helps from all the flashy stuff xD. But its a nice lag reducer for some (like me)

Having lag from a virus or a trojan? Fix it with ether of these 2 programs.

This is actualy really simple to do!

1. You will need AOL but only to start Mabinogi and login to your account, follow Dark Raccoon´s guide here:[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] on how to install and configurate AOL to be able to play.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Now here is the new part that i spent the majority of 2 days finding out how to do.

2a. Start as usual, login to mabinogi.

2b. When you are loged in, standing in lets say Dunbarton.
Open your computers taskmanager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and find the
process called AOLacsd.exe in the list.
Now click the "End Process" button, but do NOT click the "Yes"
button for closing the task just yet!

2c. Now go back into Mabinogi, open the game menu and click "Log Off", now you will se the "Saving character, bla bla, plzz wait" this is where you have to be quick and change back to your task manager to click the Yes button to close AOLacsd.exe.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

IF you did all this correctly, AOL will be closed, and you will go to the character selection screen, just select your character here again and click start.

And there you go! Mabinogi without AOL proxy usage, less lag, less death, less tears, happy gaming!

This one seems easier to me, instead of using AOL you use LokiVPN

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]

It's simple and pretty much the same method

Start LokiVPN

Logout

Saving Data Screen..

Right click LokiVPN in the tasktray

Disconnect

This may take 1 or 3 tries depending on how fast or slow you disconnect, although I live in the US this might be helpful to others outside of the US.

Well the TcpOptimizer program is the best lag reducer, kukutune is second best, and tiara moonshine is 3rd best. Lets me put a link up by tiara moonshine because some people are just to lazy to go and find a thread about tiara moonshine....

Not to point out the obvious here.. Setting your Internet connection speed as what it connects to in Los Angeles, doesn't patch you "Closer to their servers" Whether or not that helps with lag, I dunno but I can tell you, you should probably put in big bold letters "TCP OPTIMZER WILL NOT WORK WITH VISTA" o-o

It is true that you dont patch directly to nexons server, But you do help fix your lag. Out of the few people i have told this to in game, there lag decreased dramaticly. The TcpOptimizer makes you less laggy in the game because your connection to the server is better. But yes TcpOptimizer will not work with vista.
