[Question] Costume Modding

06/07/2010 11:51 iCraziE#1
I havent seen a post on this yet, so I figure I might as well ask. Is it possible to completely change the texture and look of a costume, basically creating a whole new costume. I want to have a costume that looks like the Akatsuki cloak, from the Naruto anime series. Yeah yeah I know, some of you may think thats kinda homo by I dont care lol. anyway, for those who dont know what it looks like.

It basically a Black robe, with red clounds in a poc-a-dot pattern.

if it is possible could someone guide me on the way to go about making this? or possibly make it for me if its not too much trouble. thanks let me know

u cant create meshes only edit textures

so if u cant find anything with a simulair shape, it will not be possible

i see thanks for the tips.

Well, I don't watch Naruto, I'm a Bleach-head, but I have to admit, those cloaks look bad-ass!
Sadly, as pieter said, you can't edit meshes :'( ... Yet. You could edit textures, but it wouldn't look good :/

I like this guy, at least this guy asks normally, unlike all others "can I has mod pleasss"...

Same but i'm a little bit more of an one piece-head than i am a bleach-head :p.

What's with the guy in the far right (in the picture)? It looks like a plant wearing a robe eating a person o.O

Ok back on topic, you might be interested in this [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] if you can make it export back into the mesh file structure dekaron uses then you will be able to make your own models.

Hmmm can't create meshes?

I would suggest learning DirectX. Then the file formats will become apparent. The Dekaron files are not encrypted. I'll admit they did some wierd things, but they are not encrypted.

I am in the process of creating a complete client and server emulator for fun. The spider photo has some triangles that are not facing the correct directions, so it may look a little wierd, but when I get to that point I'll get it corrected.

The Braiken map, I just figured out about 2 hours ago. I got the Y heights from the .map file. The next thing is to figure out the map tile blend so that I can get some texture on it.

I will entertain serious questions only, but if you don't know DirectX, the mesh file format will not help you. You will have to create a plugin for a 3D modeler to import and export a dekaron .mesh file.

Sadly I am not an artist, so I can not make it for you. I am just a coder, that is why I choose an existing game to borrow all the game assets from.

uhm i can do that..

thats just looking at existing meshes!
we all know thats possible

i have yet to see anyone successfully editting a mesh

No what he is saying is that some of those file types the game's assets have are just ordinary file types directX supports. So all you would need to do is create a direct3D application to load the files and deal with those file types.

@FattyB nice work, i'm also doing something similar too, but using openGL instead cause i don't have any experience with directX API plus this way i can make it on my mac. Only problem is with some of the file types they've used, so it only a little bit of a hassle to get them to work.

Once you learn the format of the meshes to look at them it is as simple as either moving the vertices around, or just start from scratch with a brand new model. The problem is, nobody in their right mind would do this by hand, so developing your new model is something like Blender, 3DMax or some other 3D modeling software and just exporting the indicies, verticies, and bones in the proper format would not be that hard.

Yep what he said. The game assets are just rearranged a little. So writing a program to load them in directX (or any 3D interface) isnt that bad at least for the meshes. Meshes are easy to spot in the files, its the other things like the map tiles, that I am running into problems with. I may have to start looking at the Assembly to figure out how they load it.

Good luck with the OpenGL! I would love to see a different perspective like OpenGl. All I know is DirectX so we come from opposite end of the specrum.

The blog it sweet. I liked the tutorial on the UI, as I will be coming up on getting those loaded in my emulator here in a couple of weeks. I may create a web site dedicated to Dekaron Emulator Development so that we can put all our head together, but I hate maintaining forums.
