Change Conquer Font

Alrite there are Posts here and there concerning this matter, some were cleared up, and some were not. All in all, I'm going to explain it in a very user friendly way; step by step. Notice my low number of posts. I can proudly say i use the search funtion ;P.

Okay let's get to it. Conquer can't use any old font. None of that Comic Sans unfortunately. I'd like to have that myself. Instead it requires a Monospace font. This means that the letters are always equally spaced out. (That's my brief understanding of it anyway). I found [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] website that contains a few Monospace fonts, so you can choose the one you like. I'm currently using [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...].

Ok, Download a font that you like, I'll be using Anonymous as an example in this tutorial so I suggest you use that. (I also tested a number of other fonts on that website and found that this one is the best; both performance wise, and the best looking).

Step By Step

1. Download the .zip file. [once again that's [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...].

2. Extract that to C:\WINDOWS\Fonts (It should say "Installing font")

3. Open your Conquer directory. C:\Program Files\Conquer 2.0
- Locate the ini folder
- Locate 2 .txt files; The first is called Font. The second is called StrRes.

4. In StrRes scroll down to number 10436 on the left side. ( This is your default conquer font. I believe it's courier, but it's labelled as 宋体 )
- You will see:
...
10436=宋体 <--Font Name
10437=14 <--Font Size

- Change 宋体 to AnonymousRegular (careful, It's case sensitive)
- Leave the size at 14, If this changes, it makes things go funny...The chat bar at the bottom becomes hard to navigate through, and where it says, "CharacterID.2 speaks to CharacterID.2" it will be overlapping etc.
Be sure to save this file now.

5. Now go to Font. The text file. This is a small text file. Simply says 宋体 14.
- Change 宋体 to AnonymousRegular
- Leave it at 14
Save this as well.

6. Close any conquer applications that may be open.
- Now run conquer.
Right away you should notice that the Log-In font is different.
- Proceed to log in and check out the new look.

Beautiful isn't it? The only thing that is slightly odd is the "~" character.
But I'd say the rest of the Letters, numbers, and symbols are improved.

I hope this helped to clear that simple issue up.
Please don't post something like.
"Wow, I already knew that."
Because if you already knew this, then it wasn't for you to be reading in the first place.

P.S. Attatched is the Font that I've been using. Just in case anything goes wrong with that.

Thanks for your time;
Regards,
~Tech

those in ini foldres are not .txt files. they are .ini files.
and u dun need to change StrRes.ini anymore. just changing the font.ini will do.
and i think u should post in guides section.

Good font. (and descenpet is correct you only need to change font.ini) For those of us trying to get more screen space you can put it down to size 11 and still be able to read it. It mildy over laps, but I prefer it over the default font. Size 12 is perfect though. No overlap what so ever.
07/06/2006 01:48 TechDubz#11
Okay thanks guys.
I realized that they were .ini and not .txt after i posted it and read it. Thanks for your input.

I'm making skins as we speak. I think this white and blue one will come out pretty good. I'll post a Screenie of it soon.

07/06/2006 03:18 Qcan#13
wish it cud be a bit smaller >.<
07/06/2006 05:02 roundknot#14
I agree, I hate having it so damn large! But if you make it smaller you get the stupid overlap and its hard to read the first word or two. I gave up and am dealing with the overlap.
07/06/2006 07:36 TechDubz#15
Hmm, Set the size to 12 instead of 14... no overlap... and it's not that big. 8|
If you think it's too big then you're being picky lol

Check out this skin i made a few minutes ago.
still a few minor bugs. The skills aren't skinned yet. Might not even bother.
