[Help] Updater Issue

05/10/2010 21:25 13latrix#1
I've tried for 3 days now to get my updater working. I think its something simple yet I have racked my brain to the fullest and must turn to some experienced help.

I am receiving "Download Failed: Read Profilec08" error and cant resolve it no matter what I try.

I've tried multiple file zip combinations as I thought was the problem area.

hmm, have u tried rebooting your pc? Thats the normal solution to most error codes. If not uninstall and install again should solve it :)

Its not a PC, it's a Opteron 2350 running windows server 2008 using IIS now, but exact same results >.<

Server has been rebooted serveral times with no effects. No error reports or logs. Reinstalling ... don't think that will help hence I've switch from apache to IIS.

Thx tho.. still think its something simple yet I havnt figured it out yet.

hmm try with the reinstall it normally works. i think its cause u have a missing file so reinstalling should fix the problem. Or u could try flushing your DNS and then restarting server, see if that helps.

The "download failed: c08" error was caused from the "UpdateVersion.ini" not being absolutely right. It seem's it was a "Mime type" error.

However a new problem has burden me. When I run the updater.exe from the client, it quickly downloads a "new_updater" and I get the following.

I've messed around with this updater for about a week now. I'm really getting frusturated with it. Anyone with experience in successfuly running this with IIS and/or Apache please give me a few mins of your time to help me sort these issues.

1. Change (HEX) ALL 10.0.0.199 - Updater.exe
2. Copy Updater.exe and Version.ini to u.. game folder

For test settings...

Version.ini :
CurrentVersion=1

UpdateVersion.ini:
PatchFileVersion=3

in patch folder (ps0001.patch,ps0002.patch,ps0003.patch)

Took your example files and overwritten mine. Both on server (wwwroot) and on client (networked PC / test client). Using my Wan IP i changes all 4 adresses in updater. Result = can't find update server. Register and news does not show. Using my redirect instead of actual Wan IP I get the previous error. "Download Failed : Read Profilec08". Both the register and news link works. They are also located in wwwroot.

However when I remove the UpdateVersion.ini's and try to launch updater I get a different error stating incorrect version error c25 or c35. So It seems to me that is is defenitely a server side issue and updater isn't reading the ini's correctly or can't read the patches. Maybe it's cause of a web redirect or maybe its because I have my server behind a DHCP router/hub. All neccesary ports are open and the server/pc's are assigned the same address and such as intended.

Solved ~ Ty again U97 for your help

What solved my problems was using rar instead of zip.. and decreasing file sizes.

I was wondering if you can explain how exactly you set this up, I am stuck at the same point you were, but even when I do make the files rar or zip it seems like no combination works. If I make them rar I get a download failed error, and if they are zip I get the runtime error.

Weiß einer die Dateiendung von .patch
10/15/2011 15:45 viper4513#15
You said it yourself.
.patch IS the extension :)

Use 7zip with the "zip" format, then rename the file itself on 7zip to "psxxxx.patch"

xxxx being your version number btw, not "xxxx"
