my anwser is your laptop gets hot

lap tops are fine for mmorpgs

just as long as you have a fan directly on the cpu

my advice get a little fan for about 10 dollors one you can put ont he side of a desk and have it blow into the air vents it keeps mine cold and lag free :) thats the reason it reboots cause its to hot

ps laptops are no worse then desktops

if they have the same stuff inside them

ie ram, processer,

erm, blowing air INTO vents wouldn't be very smart, as those vents are made for blowing hot air OUT of the laptop..
And laptops can and will never be better than desktops, simple fact that stuff found in a desktops produces too much heat than 'mobile technology' would.

I have also a laptop and i can open 8 clients now , at first 2.
What i did:
downloaded full version of direct x with components , you can download free from microsoft site (you'll need the genuine validation though)
Tweaked up the graphic tool you can find many free sites who do this for you just google it.
The extra fan is a real good tip too
here's the link for a nice free tool which checks your temperature , and you can manually adjust the heatings of your processors , dont do this if you're a noob in this kind of matery , or you can throw your laptop through the window.

I tried all that, kept on shutting down, the fan helped some, but in the end, although i loved having a laptop, i realized i didnt really need it any more and got a desktop instead. Especially when my old laptop would shut off when working with paint shop pro  I kno its a rather graphic intensive prog but with just that running, shutting off all non nessasary programs? Thats when you take it back and get a nice desktop.

Now i can run 5 clients with cobo but since I get this annoying driver error on the infamous blue screen of death when I do that for long periods of time, I run 4.

I have a somewhat decent laptop, could use some major upgrading. Anyhow, I can run at least 7 clients, and still browse the web and download stuff at the same time, with some minor lag. If your going to keep the laptop I would suggest getting some type of cooling device. They have these laptop stands with fans built into them that might be helpful to you. About $10-$20. Also, good graphics card & lots of memory helps too. Good luck.

i have a shitty 256mb ram laptop from dell that runs over 8 clients easy....

well they all run good just lag a little like 12 fps and below but if its cooled with a fan its like 20-25 fps

well if the vents are blowing hot air OUT, then there must be some place where air is entering the computer. Its simple physics... anyway, a fan will help, but not entirely... i've gone through several laptop HD's from overheating. I'd say invest in one of those things someone else was talking about that goes under the laptop and cools it.

find some 'airvents' on your desktop that would actually do any diffrence in blowing air in, then I mean vents of decent size not tiny small holes.
I've had one laptop (sold however) and main vents were for blowing hot air OUT, so the best thing to do would find a "mobile water-cooling system" (they do exist ! :o) and get an technician to mount it.

i also shelled out moneuy for theose lap top cooler things that u place it on , didnt help much, kept my lap/desk cool but didnt help on the overheat problem.

instead of shelling out money for a water cooler thingamabob just get a desktop, that will solve your problem right then and there and might even allow you to open even more clients
05/27/2006 02:26 conquer4lief#14
some people actually use their computer for more than playing mmorpg's and have a real reason for having a laptop :P
05/27/2006 02:37 Rorrim#15
well, i used to use my laptop for work and mmorpgs but i had to quit for my health and returned the laptop once it became aparent that i couldnt even use my fave paint prog on it in the ladies room (dont ask) so to completely stop it from over heating get a desktop and use the laptop for light work
