Elveron Greedy

I felt like playing Metin again after a long time, and since I don’t want to invest hundreds of euros, I thought I’d try a private server.
I’ve been playing Elveron for a week now, and I’m shocked. I’m wondering how this server can be ranked number 1.
Everything on the server actually costs money. Even the Switchbot. For basic IS equipment you easily need 200 euros+, and then you have to pay monthly because literally everything expires and of course, these servers have a 2-account meta so you end up buying everything twice.
Have these people forgotten why we play on private servers?

What do you think? Am I wrong here? Because arguments like “official is more expensive (and official will eventually shut down anyway)” or “that’s just how Metin is” are no justification for making private server stuff this expensive, and then on a monthly basis on top of that.

The simple answer is: obviously, there are enough players willing to pay (that much) for the gaming experience. As an operator, it only makes sense to monetize as much as possible.

Right now, Elveron certainly offers one of the best – if not the very best – gaming experiences. How many servers can currently compare in terms of quality? Competition drives the market, but I don’t really see any competition at the moment. Back in the day, you had the luxury of choice and could pick from five different Middleschool servers – nowadays, you basically don’t have any real choice left.

As long as people continue to support a system like the one Elveron runs, and as long as no serious alternatives enter the market, nothing will change. In fact, it will probably be pushed even further.

My personal opinion: I never started playing Elveron because of its heavily item-shop-driven concept. The argument that you can still play without paying may technically be true, but the progress takes far too long to get anywhere meaningful. That kills the fun. Spending €200 might be peanuts for some, but over the course of a year that’s €2400 – which could just as well buy you two vacations instead.

Official servers are not even expensive anymore. You can reach everything f2p, if you spend a lot of time in it, especially once you reach high level, you make tons of ingame currency, being able to buy lo of dragon coin vouchers. In theory you can spend thousends of € if you wish to skip some months of hard work, but it's not required. On PServer however you have to spend money and after some months, say bye bye to your account cuz it will close for a new run.
