I wanted to start a discussion (and a poll) about which era of DarkOrbit you think was the best, and why.
Each version brought different features and balance changes, and I’m curious which one you remember most fondly.
Here are the main eras I’m proposing for the poll:
1. 2010 Classic Version
2. 2.15 / Uridium Wars
3. 7.5.3 (2012)
Please vote for your favorite version in the poll and share why you think it was the best.
Did you prefer the pure old-school dogfights? The more balanced but modern Uridium Wars era? Or the early days of formations and new ship classes?
About my own project:
I’m currently working on recreating the old Flash client. The project is at an advanced stage, but progress is slow since I’m working on it alone.
One of the biggest challenges is the lack of a full game server. I’m using an edited Dark Planets server and its CMS, which limits testing and feature support. I don’t have the experience yet to write a proper server or CMS myself, so I’m fully focused on rebuilding the client and restoring its original functions.
I’ll also include a video showcasing the current version of the project for anyone interested.
I’d love to hear what you all think, which version you want to see brought back the most, and what made it special to you.

- Old graphics style
- No EMP, no rocket launchers
- Only RSB as the big extra ammo
- Very simple, raw PvP experience
2. 2.15 / Uridium Wars
- Slightly improved graphics
- EMP and rocket launchers available
- Still no formations
- Battles were modernized but stayed skill-based
3. 7.5.3 (2012)
- First introduction of formations
- Core extras like Apis, Zeus drones, Havoc and Hercules designs
- New ships: Aegis, Citadel, Spearhead
- Clan Battle Stations were also part of the game by this point
- Strategy and fleet roles started to expand
