What information on steam accounts do admins have?

Hi,

Got banned on a modded server recently (suspicion of cheating and I didn't want some grubby admin to pc check me, so I didn't get unbanned)

The admin also made some strange claims about knowing info about my steam account, so wanted to check if its possible for them to know these things:
1) Country/region that the steam account was first created, and that it was active in that country for 2 years
2) That a password request change was made 3 months ago
3) That the steam account was flagged as "stolen"

Can Rust admins actually see any of this? I am skeptical that Steam (via FP) would provide any of this info to rust admins

they can def see what region the account was created in. Use to mod for a DayZ server ages ago and i remember being able to tell that. Would ask people why their account was made in Argentina and they're playing on EU servers etc if they were extremely sus, among other things.

Highly doubt they can or are told about password resets

Steam account being flagged as stolen also highly unlikely, and could just be a personal guess from them

As far as I know, they can’t see that kind of Steam info. Probably just bluffing

  • One thing they like using is (?xml=1)
Example: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]

Which shows <isLimitedAccount>1</isLimitedAccount> or <isLimitedAccount>0</isLimitedAccount>

isLimitedAccount 0 means that you have added funds to the account, with steam balance to purchase a product.

isLimitedAccount 1 means that you got gifted the game you are playing from a friend, very common with G2G accounts

  • Another thing they like using is ASN (Autonomous System Number)
ASN (Autonomous System Number): A unique number assigned to a network (or group of IP ranges) operated by an ISP, data center, VPN provider, etc.

Organization/Provider: The company or entity that owns the ASN (e.g., Comcast, Cloudflare, DigitalOcean).

So even if you are changing your public IPv4, your ASN might not have changed and that's how admins can track you even if you bought a brand new computer

Example output of a lookup:
Code:
IP: 123.45.67.89
ASN: AS12345
Org: DIGITALOCEAN-ASN - DigitalOcean, LLC
Location: Netherlands
  • Battlemetrics
  • Other servers you are banned on
If your account has played on other servers by other people, you never know what they are guilty of.

You could have bought a previously cheated account or the account owner himself have cheated and ban evaded.

All it takes is one IP and link it back to an old account and admins like Camomo will ban you from the server.

They also check like the user said above if your region changes, if your battlemetrics reported that you played in Germany and all the sudden you are now in France playing, thats a massive flag to admins.

Another flag to modded admins are if you dont have playtime on other modded servers, like example you only played warbandits or pickaloo 10000000000x
Hope this will help you a little bit on your journey of cheating on modded servers.

How is staff members that doesn't have access to your computer, going to have your ASN?

ASN can be found by your public IPV4

Don't worry, I have no clue what I am talking about

I see, well that's informative, but from what i can read (Quickly) isn't something that can be used to pinpoint or with 100% certainty identify cheaters correct?

Never said that.

100% accuracy does not matter for modded admins, if your account already looks sus ASN can be used as another thing that get you screwed.

Not sure, I dont cheat on modded servers so I never really cared to look into it

I find cheating on modded pretty cringe personally

I know from fact that warbandits is using that ?xml=1 check to ban accounts after 1-2 reports

The ban message is like "sus profile" or something like that

Yeah that would make a lot of sense, since legit players usually have their own steam account and buy the game on that.

You'd need to switch your public IP address to one that belongs to a different ASN (ex: connect to a different VPN server whose IP range isn't apart of your current ASN).

If you're just unplugging and plugging in your router again to get a new IP from your ISP then you can't really change your ASN unless you move ISP as your ISP will be allocated a range of IPv4 addresses like 10.20.30/24, which means the first 24 bits remain static and the last 8 bits are given to your ISP (so your ISP can give any IP address under 10.20.30.x where x is any number between 0-255 to their customers) and those allocated IP addresses will be under your ISP's ASN.

If you go to [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] for example and then go to the "prefixes" section you can view all their allocated IP ranges.
