Regarding the current state of SRO and it's outlets

Morning, well, at least it is here anyway :pimp:

As you all know SRO has been going down the gutter recently, and this includes, but not limited to;

• Server owners creating & ending servers within a few months

• Server owners thinking SRO is like Call of Duty, new battle passes which were never in the original game, items that were never in the original game & more

• "Season 1" "Season 2" "Season 3"

And more.

I'm confident most who read this post have been here long enough to get a good enough grasp of the point I'm trying to make. I'm here to ask you guys, as a 2006 ISRO starter on Xian, what would you want to do? I understand some groups of people AND guilds prefer to spend money to boost their way to the top, however, original Silkroad wasn't made like this besides a premium login and 100% xp boost.

Opinions welcome.

The biggest issue with most game servers today is that 99% are driven purely by money - and both owners and players are to blame.
Server owners constantly launch new projects every few months, not to improve the experience, but to milk as much cash as possible. They push open markets where everything is tradable, turning gameplay into a job instead of something fun or creative.

But the problem isn’t just the owners — it’s the players too. People keep joining these cash-grab servers because they’re chasing profit instead of looking for quality, community, or originality. That support encourages more of the same.

So the cycle repeats: new server, quick hype, profit-driven design, burnout.
No lasting fun. No innovation. Just another rinse-and-repeat.

The issue is far more serious than it appears. From an owner's perspective, the problem can be divided into two main categories:

Owners: Many are primarily focused on exploiting players for quick financial gain. Once donations peak, they often abandon the server and move on to launch a new one with fake name.

Players: Despite being aware of the shady practices behind the scenes, many continue to play on poorly managed servers, raising countless questions about their motivations and decisions.

If I could suggest something, it would be to set a rule requiring server owners to use only one account to create servers, instead of making multiple fake accounts just to open a new server every month or two.

Fun fact: Even though there're more than 100 servers opens a year, there might be fewer than 20 actual owners. Do the math.

I’ve been developing Silkroad servers for almost 11 years, and I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about why the scene keeps declining. I believe the core problem lies within SRO itself.

Once the game files were leaked and became public, everything started to change, for the worse. Anyone with basic technical knowledge could open a server. I was one of them back in 2014. I had zero programming experience, but I managed to launch a server simply because the files were so easy to use. Now we see dozens of servers launching every week, all claiming to be "the best", promising fairness, no deals, and balanced gameplay. But let’s be honest—most of that is complete bullshit.

It got worse when some people released my databases as revenge. Those databases contained over 90% of the work I had done over the past 11 years. That leak led to even more copy-paste servers, making it nearly impossible for players, especially casual ones, to know which projects are actually worth their time. The scene is oversaturated, and trust is gone long time ago.

There’s barely any real innovation left. Most “new” servers are just recycled versions of older ones, with the same features and systems. Instead of improving the game or adding something meaningful, most just add glows, add some dumb looking pets/avatars, and call it a day.

That said, a few servers still offer real long-term gameplay and innovation, but finding them among all this clownery has become much harder.

Ultimately, the issue isn’t just with server owners. Many players have also started treating the game like a business. And unless that mindset changes, the private SRO scene will just keep eating itself alive.

Further security would definitely be welcome, but I’m not sure how feasible it really is.

Even if there were a rule requiring accounts to be at least a year old, people are so driven by profit that they’d likely just buy old or inactive accounts to post as "new users" anyway. It’s a tough problem to solve.

Another issue I’d like to mention is the numbers game. A lot of servers inflate their stats with ghost users, fake parties, or even manipulated online counts on their websites. So when a legitimate server shows 200 players online, it gets overlooked—people are used to seeing numbers like 3,000, even though the actual real player count might be about the same.

In the current stage, I don't blame anyone wanting some quick cash from a server like I used to 10 years ago.

The problem is with the game itself, we've hit the limits in terms of innovation whether its in the form of ideas or on the technical side.

I'd rather not deviate from this thread's topic too much - I no longer care about the shitfest that is "the VSRO community," and I have no bad blood & hold no grudges towards the ghosts of the past.

Here's my opinion:

Every year or so, a new "SOLVE SRO'S PROBLEM" heroic-wannabe opinion thread pops up and always yields the exact same responses, while making absolutely NO difference in the way the community operates or continues to spiral downward.

The truth is that the number of people with a "caring mindset" is greatly outnumbered by those who prefer the "business" aspect of SRO - players getting paid to play & sell silk/items for real $, admins just looking to make $. If the current systems were not working towards the benefit of most players, these servers would no longer be crowded and continue to be copied. It's simply not the case - these guys LIKE what you HATE, and it WORKS for them, so they stay. These people comprise the majority and have infested the community, they practically own it now.

The vast majority of "innocent-minded" solo players have caught on to the deceptive tactics used by quite literally 99% of "private server owners" (these days, more like guild masters using released databases and public filters to open copypaste servers and milk money) and are either 1.) no longer playing the game, or 2.) have found a server that aligns with their beliefs.

If you look at servers with unique communities with heaps of players that align with the mindset/characteristics that OP posted (no "season" bullshit, no corruption, etc.), you'll find that only a few meet the criteria: Sailor, Project65, Origin, etc. (advertising not intended)

Why do I point this out? You may notice that the way these servers advertise themselves is completely different from how your average private server is marketed.
You won't find these unique servers in Discord communities, heavily relying on Elitepvpers, relying on guild attention, etc. like every other trashcan. The way that they conduct themselves and build their respective communities allows them to create a core community comprised of people who are not just in it for the typical reasons these days. Doing so allows them to be generally free from the side effects that come along with having a server with a majority of players who follow the same old server-jumping, business-oriented mindset. They aren't shaken by the next "big" server, they aren't pressured into paying deals, etc., and they are able to continually gain success and grow steadily over time. Check any of these servers and you'll see they have tons of players who are simply passionate about the game itself, and for many of these players, you won't find them in any other server besides the one they've been supporting for years. Over time, the actions of these servers speak louder than the words they throw around, and that's where the massive difference in quality comes in to play. The server begins spreading to more like-minded people by word of mouth (hint, I just gave you a big part of it :)).

The basis of your question is wrong. You already know (or can know) what your side of the community wants. Just look into one of the thousands of "FIX SRO" opinion threads posted in the last years, and you'll find repeating themes. Someone needs to step up and start taking action. That's where you have to start. We don't need to answer the same question 10 times, we need to answer 10 different questions.

You should start focusing on how to execute your vision and become the change you want to see. From there, it's about attracting and retaining players/attention. I wish I could say that's something simple to do, but we all know it's not. Those who managed to do so have either been insanely lucky or used a set of carefully cultivated skills and bank of knowledge that they acquired through their own experience from years and years of trials opening tens of servers with several different teams. It's not something that can be picked up one day and taken off with.

Anyways, just my thoughts. Feel free to disagree. I'm tired of replying to these... at least I'm getting my posts in I guess. Bye.

The "leaked project" you're mentioning was a corrupted server and I have never denied that. I know you hate me so much, but you know exactly who the teammate behind all of those scams was, so at least do me justice and stop making it look like I was behind all of the corruption and scams. Anyway, I now work on a well-known project with a reputation/player-base nobody could ever dream of achieving nowadays. Not here to market for it, as it doesn't need any marketing at this point. I have reached a point where I no longer need to talk about my skills or experience because my work speaks for itself (as a database developer - I do not count myself as a server owner)

Some of us, like myself, have a lot more requests and attention, but I am not opening servers in this community anymore. I'm tired of dealing with idiots. I have absolutely no desire to return, I am chilling as a player in Sailor, have been for years now. I NEVER asked ANYONE to work with me for a server, because unlike you I don't need a few thousand dollars every few months from a game. People always came to me, and I always happily obliged and helped, as any good friend would do. You know, how we used to be?

My moves were not childish nor uncalculated. After more than two years, you still don't see it. I did it because I didn't care, I was taking my revenge and didn't care if I lost every connection because I was already done in this community; however, I knew you would suffer from my actions, as you deserve to considering that you played a key role in scamming me. I made my mark from 2017-2023 in VSRO and every admin, every player, every guild knew my name. People still talk about me, not quite sure about you though... I was relevant long before you in PSRO community, and I will be relevant long after you're gone, even though I'm not even an admin anymore and only playing one server for the past two years now.

In fact, I never denied the fact I worked with Golden (I no longer do). I am actually proud to have worked on this server, because I was one of the very first developers to actually deliver something unique and new back when I worked on this server.

You can keep spreading those completely fake news. I do not work on Golden anymore. I quit the team since December 2023. I quit everything that has anything to do with Woody. Oh and again, I do not work with him anymore. Keep making up scenarios in your head and believing them.

By the way, I speak as a developer, not a server owner. I am not a server owner, and I am not responsible for the actions of the owners of any servers I work on except for Old Silkroad. Any other server? I don't care what the owners do. I just do my job (at which I am an adept) and get paid for it. Not even a % of the server's earnings. I am proud of what I have achieved today and the knowledge/experience I have earned throughout the past 11 years, and nothing you could ever say would make me less proud of what I have achieved.

Azeron was not my server :LUL: - I work as a freelancer developer. Any individual with ideas can DM me to have their server up and running with their dream features. In fact, I refuse to join any servers under my name, but they keep begging me to join under my own name so that players could have some trust in the server's development.

Fun fact: my last server under my name is Old Silkroad - ZSZC - launched February 14th and doing a massive server cap upgrade today (3 months after the grand opening) - after publicly distributing over $25,000 in Prize Pool. AlsoI use no fake names FYI - my name itself is a great addition to any server I work on and adds an reliable extra layer of trust in the development of the server, or why else would all my clients (with absolutely no exceptions) want to have my name as their Database Developer publicly?

First of all I no longer work with Woody since Dec 2023. Honestly one of the best decisions I had ever made in my life for my own mental health and for my work. Gannicus still wants to work with me again until today and is waiting me.

I made my mark from 2017-2023 in VSRO and every admin, every player, every guild knew my name. People still talk about me, not quite sure about you though... I was relevant long before you in PSRO community, and I will be relevant long after you're gone, even though I'm not even an admin anymore and only playing one server for the past two years now. I didn't even see you responded to me, I don't check that thread anymore, I don't care about it. That's how little you or Eternity stays in my mind. But the funny part is that even if I did see it, I wouldn't respond.

Still believing I played a key role in scamming you is actually dumb after I shared all the screenshots I shared in Eternity's DB release thread.

I spent over 2 months constantly begging and reminding Woody to send your money. I shared obvious screenshots for that, yet you still accuse me of playing a key role in scamming you.

Anyway, you're one extremely irrelevant hated individual and you should never forget that, nor should you ever deny it. You talk big as if you're a god, when you're in fact nothing but an irrelevant nobody with an attitude acting tough behind a screen. Remember when I used to hire you as a support in my servers before 2019? The only reason I had chosen you to be with me in Eternity is because I needed a replacement for Gannicus whose English was good and looked professional. But I've come to find out that proper English is not all that is needed to properly manage a server.

But there's one thing I am sure I tell to everyone: you had all the right in the world to not return back the discord server's ownership, because Woody decided to scam you. I say that publicly and would never deny it. Everyone who knows me knows that I am also a straight-forward and an honest person. But praising you? There's not one thing I can say to praise you honestly. I've seen your true colors after Eternity, and you're definitely not the kind of person I would praise.

I must admit, it's a genius move from the both of you to try to cover your tracks this way. Such a simple and elegant method of deflecting "rumors" (which are actually true) - open servers at the same time as each other and launch some fake bullshit drama to try and prove that the owners are different - because who in the right mind would believe that two servers owned by the same individual would be competing against each other?
The community is stupid enough to fall for such surface level tactics and not question anything beyond the obvious, but the real players of this community know better. Sadly it was the first but not the only time Woody pulled this stunt - he did the same with Golden's cap expansion & Ruby's grand opening. Wow, so much to unpack here.

You shared a couple nonsense screenshots in Arabic that are completely non-specific and prove nothing. Asking someone to pay me does not free you from your social responsibilies and obligations to your partner, especially with all things considered. To sit idly by while your partner is stolen from, to then take additional profits for your own personal cut, and then continue working with said scammer is beyond unbelievable. Any individual with even a smidge of integrity and honor would realize that's wrong, but not you. As long as Aaron is benefitting, who cares who gets screwed? I'm sure it feels great to sit back and keep supporting while you get continually paid from someone who scammed tons of people & guilds alike. It speaks to your character (or lack thereof) in more ways than one, but whatever, as I said before, I'm not here to bitch about something so minor to me anymore.

When was I ever a supporter for any server you've opened? I was a supporter a few times in my early years in PSRO community, 2017-2018, yeah. Everyone starts at the bottom and pays their dues. Nobody can start at the top with zero knowledge of the inner workings of this community, with no connections, etc.. I bided my time and made many good friends during that era, and I'll never be ashamed of it. BUT, despite that, I was NEVER a supporter in ANY of your servers, that is a blatant lie. You knew me from my past work that was completely unrelated to you, which is just another fact that speaks volumes about what I've done and how valuable I was to you. Before Eternity, we worked together in *one* project (Enfexia) in which you were simply the developer and I was the assistant. I was involved in the team way before you came along, and I was there for a way more valuable purpose than you were. I never worked under you, only besides you. In fact, a lot of the things you were doing while "above me" were actually orders from me, you'd have no way of knowing that though as I pushed everything through Apollon (you know, the one who actually brought me? Not you like you're trying to act like). So yeah, not sure where that's coming from but TOPKEK lie.

I'm not going to sit here and leak conversations I've had with anyone about you (more like what you said to them about me), because it's classless and tacky. Maybe you forgot or aren't recalling it, but maybe a little something along the lines of "he was truly one of the best community managers, he could have been at the top but lacked the motivation to keep going with it" will refresh your memory? Be specific with your words. $447.25 was the INVESTMENT portion of my money, a VERY SMALL PORTION of what was truly scammed from me. You know, what I spent to keep the server progressing on schedule because your investor was too lazy to handle all of the transactions? I was dedicated to Eternity, and was often spending money from my own pocket to keep things moving while the rest of you could care less about the servers future. Just goes to show what I've done to ensure your brand looked professional and was continually running smoothly, I never let the minor details go. Now, let's talk about where the SEVERAL THOUSANDS went, which was my share of the profits which was in the mid 5-figure range, which to this day all of you were still lying about. This money is a different situation, but I'm sure you can put the pieces together when you understand that Woody was a partner in Diamond with full access to the panels, so you can use your "big brain" that you bragged about to work out how that seperate scam went down.

I won't deny that I probably overreacted at the time of the release. I had reached my breaking point between Woody's fakename Glory project trying to block me, you ignoring all of my DMs and calls, entire team lying to guilds about me, and other stuff that was going on in my life at the time. It was an accumulation of bullshit that led me to finally end this drama once and for all and take my revenge without having to be involved with a constant back and forth battle anymore. Can you blame me for my reaction at the time? By the way, that was more than two years ago. And the release was MONTHS after Eternity ended. You had plenty of time to try to make things right way before, or way after. You chose not to.
