Resources/Documentation for Scripting

Hey,

im having some free time and i want to learn a scripting language. Are there any available resources/documentation on how scripts generally work (injection etc.) or is the general approach more of a reverse engineering type of deal.

Its not that i want to make money with it just some (hopefully) fun and interesting way to learn a new dev topic.
