Alternative to dark orbit

I posted about a year ago a thread to discuss why dark orbit is an irrelevant game in 2022 and what aspect of the game had to be changed for it to modernize and appeal to a new younger audience.

So after deeply studying that I decided I had all the key ingredients to start my own new game that would be the soul successor of dark orbit, in a way teenagers today can enjoy the online space adventure the same way we did in 2007-2010.
I say soul successor because this game is too different to be a dark orbit clone, it is rather a different game that is inspired by the spirit of dark orbit. To this date I have never found any other game that felt like dark orbit.

I am tired of all the private servers that are all the same low quality dark orbit experience, and I see many here agree with me. I hope this project will rise up your hopes of playing a real quality alternative to dark orbit.

Well yeah if you're comparing Space Age to WarUniverse you're comparing an unofficial fan made remake of a 2008 game with an official 2022 DO clone. One has more potential to be better than the other but it has nothing to do with the engine used. You can make a crappy game with a good engine and an excellent game with a decent engine. You must understand that Unreal Engine 5 is not a requirement to make a top down 2D game.

C’mon u will get free premium for week xd

We are getting very close to having a playable multiplayer game
You can see I added laser shooting system along with some basic npc ai

Next steps are:
- Work on the graphics: make the game look nicer, add map background, work on some visual effects.
- Add other weapon types: other laser types, rockets, mines ..
- Add map system, player stats (health, shield), factions and respawn points

Quick update: a lot of work has been done on the UI and improving player experience and quality of the game
Still many things left to work on
