Is RMT worth it? In short, yes *understand the risks*, only because it's more cost-effective than using orange crystals. At the time of this post, gold conversion is 238 orange crystals for 320 gold. $100 can get you ~15k gold legitimately and ~40k gold illegitimately.
However, you run the risk of getting banned for an extra 25k gold so you can assess that risk yourself and hopefully determine if 25k extra gold or however much extra gold you are getting at your conversion rate is worth a ban.
My experience RMTing:
I myself have gotten banned for only 3-days and I purchased on G2G sent VIA mail(seller might be pretty obvious since it's the first seller that probably pops up for everyone). I've heard stories of people getting permabanned without even receiving an initial soft ban, and I believe it varies depending on severity. To my understanding after reading the ban notice on server selection,
1st Offense - 3-days
2nd Offense - 14-days
3+ Offense - Permaban
The only punishment I am aware of in NA/EU is they set your gold to 0. I've heard in other regions like KR they'll set your gold negative.
Possible triggers for these bans?
Just a theory, I believe what flags your account for investigation might be converting gold into BLUE crystals. I don't think AGS/Amazon gives a crap if you are using RMT gold for AH since it is a player-driven market and they don't really get hurt if people are mindlessly spending thousands of gold on farmable items.
Where they do get hurt is when people start converting RMT gold into Blue crystals because blue crystals essentially give you access to AGS/Amazon's moneymaker, the Crystalline Aura effect. If most of you don't know, this Crystalline Aura is basically a monthly subscription that can be purchased using Blue crystals (F2P friendly) or IRL money.
I think what happens is if you convert any gold(not sure about the amount converted) into blue crystals, your account probably gets flagged for review which could be manual or automated. That review process probably digs through your history and looks for suspicion. I'm assuming they probably have records which is why there is an appeal option for when you get banned so be prepared for some receipts if you plan to appeal.
