still played but dead and old
for example metin can still not render normal maps and there is no way for moveable lights the rendering system is stuck in 2004
you can also not jump the Z position is always the lowest point from the map where you currently are

I concur with the post above. The game breaks more often with each addition than it stays stable. It has difficulty using threads and multiple cores, as the game had been conceived when those concepts were just concepts, and the technology wasn't available. It also has primitive shading techniques that complement the old, cartoony and washed out look. No global illumination, no individual light sources, limited use of reflective surfaces, no parallax mapping. The movements, idles, and animations are also pretty bad.

These 'faults' are the results of negligence and developmental oversights on behalf of Ymir/GF. They could easily be overlooked if the combat system had a robust foundation to stand on. They implemented a poor hack & slash combat into an MMO whose engine doesn't support such a complex system. The game executes most action on the server side, and the game gives unfair advantage to those who have more stable and faster internet connection, or cheat.

Let's not even get into memory leak issues. :kappa: The game is still fun, though, and I treat it like a social hub. A hack & slash, action RPG Club Penguin, a bad one at that, too.

Metin2 was never finished in my poor opinion....the budget ended and the team decided to push pay 2 win

same reason people play old games such as runescape, [nostalgia], in my opinion people play these games to relive good moments, nowadays newer games don't give that feeling of hard earned achievments. its decent for a fun weekend from time to time but as game you'd really be hooked up to? I don't recommend.

I'm amazed this game still exists today. I mean, most of the players that play it or like it is mostly because they played it when it was new. It's some sort of nostalgia, because it was one of the first MMORPG back in the day. Today its pay 2 win and can't really compete with today's role games.

It was good back then. But today's games are way better.

Most players play it out of nostalgia, but newbies enjoy it too, now it's not as p2w-heavy as it used to be if you know how to play.

Those were exactly the reasons Metin2 was succesfull.
The game could run even on a rock with Windows XP in it, there's a reason it kept developing up until 2012 - 2013 in most underdeveloped parts of Europe (Romania, Polonia, south Italy, Turkey ...)

Another demonstration that graphic features are not so important for a game to be succesfull
