Asking for advice

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and I want to take your advice regarding to learning how to develop a private server.

First of all, my main goal is to learn and have fun, not to release a private server (at least now).

I'm not a beginner programmer, I've worked in many projects in the last years. I'm just a beginner when it comes to developing a private server.
I want your advice and suggestions about how to start. I want your recommendations and tutorials so that I can take the first steps.

From my little research, there are many public sources released by the members here. Do you recommend picking one and start learning? Or it's better to learn everything from scratch on my own source.
If you recommend picking an already available source, please let me know which one do you recommend.

If you have any recommendations about topics to learn about in programming before starting, please let me know.

Edit: I haven't played CO for years. I stopped playing after the release of Ninja class, so I prefer developing/learning for the versions before or just after the announcement of Ninja Class.

Thanks.

There is no better thread on epvp than this one created by Spirited

you Could nOt find anything better than the OLD thread created by spirited/fang here On epvp. When deciding Which versioN.DEVs like spirited have some of the best information.

This is the aforementioned epvpthread [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]

Hopefully you'll find the other resource.

Thank you so much. After reading the post I know exactly what patches I'm looking for. I will chose a well documented source to start learning from.
